QuoteJeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond kick off a new series of the motoring magazine show by taking on a challenge to find an alternative to the expensive diesel-fuelled hatchbacks driven by British police officers. James May introduces a new team member, and The Sunday Night Projects Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins take up the gauntlet as Stars in Reasonably Priced Cars

Hope its not another attempt at a mascot, "Top Gear dog" wasnt worth its dog food. I cant see them changing the current trio though, its a good format - unless May is leaving (I know that Hammond and Clarkson are in the rest of the series from when they filmed by me).

Panic over, i found that answer on FinalGear.com (http://forums.finalgear.com/top-gear-pre-episode-discussions/11x01-june-22nd-2008-a-27914/)

The new member is described as (attempt at spoiler hiding):

...a stunt stig or something like that (minor character).

I thought hamster was the stunt stig? Is his wife stopping him trying to commit suicide?

Possibly one of the silliest Top Gear episodes...with the exception of the Amphibious Cars ones

I meant sh*t as in sh*t I missed it.

It was ok... the ciarpc thing got old ages ago, they should get rid of it. Stunt stig could be cool. The challenge was really funny I did crack up but it was still a bit crap too.. James May

meh/10.

Outrage in New Zealand over frozen penis:
QuoteAn icy Top Gear episode showing hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May drinking and driving has landed the pair in hot water.

The Polar Special, which screened in the UK last year and in New Zealand last month, featured the two drinking gin and tonics while trying to reach the Magnetic North Pole.

The BBC Trust was bombarded with viewer complaints about the episode, which also screened an image of a frostbitten penis.

BBC Trust criticised the show, saying it "could be seen to glamorise the misuse of alcohol".

BBC reports that the shows executive producer defended the pairs behaviour, saying that they were beyond the jurisdiction of drink drive laws, and were actually in international waters at the time.

The trust accepted that neither presenter was drunk or out of control of the vehicle, but said it was "not editorially justified in the context of a family show" at the time it screened.

In relation to the image of frostbitten genitalia, a statement from the trust said there was "a clear editorial purpose for the inclusion of an image of a frostbitten penis, which had been shown for a medical rather than a sexual purpose".
Continue to be awesome you three.

Top Gear is no longer a topical motoring show...it has now become 3 men [and a stig] at the pinnacle of cocking about.

Which is why I watch it :D

I couldnt care less about cars, but Top gear is a laugh, and even if I dont know a thing about cars, its still possible to appreciate the design of the stupidly expensive stuff they have on the show.

The only things I dont really like on the show are things like the tracks, too car-y for me!

Post by: El Jacko on July 07, 2008, 15:48:24 PM
I think the silly stuff makes it good. The old show was just cars, and Jezza left and the show caved. Then they brought it back, started being silly and now its huge. I think they stumbled upon a great formula by accident.

No2 I thought was better than 1 tbh...

But No3 is going to be the best so far Nissan GTR vs Bullet train 8-)

JC said it was limited to 112 miles per hour by Japanese law, so they couldnt do much tbh.

I suspect once it gets on the track later in the season it will show its true colours. If you look at the other epic race episodes it has been GT cars for the most part - DB9, 612, McLaren Merc and Veyron, cars designed for what they were doing. The GTR is a lot more hardcore so a motorway drive isnt going to give you an impression of what it can do. Looked like fun on the mountain road at the end though :)

I love the show, the GTR looked awesome, cant wait to see it round the track.

Would the GTR be the fastest Japanese production car ever?  I dont recall a Japanese car company making a car capable of over 190mph before.

It was the episode filmed by my house with my local hunt!

Ive been a little underwelmed so far, i havent found the same epicness or amusement in any of the episodes so far. Fingers crossed for the future.

Other than the GTR cameo last night the episode was lame, and tbh I am getting sick of the fake beeps of annoyance soundtrack they use whenever a features in a built up area and something hilarious happens.

I really like last nights episode, had a nice mix of things, the GTR was awesome, it was funny watching the old luxury cars and the fox hunt impressed me that the car didnt just snap in half.

Traditionally I think the odd numbered series arent as good as the even ones, must be some kind of Star Trek curse.

Ive been feeling the same. I think its become too formulaic and predictable.

They have been slated for spending to much and their budget cut down apperently so its going to show and they will see the complaints and figures and either can it or give them back their money

I would say every person who watches top gear is more than happy to be paying a tv licence for the quality of the previous series.

Give them the budget they deserve!

beleive it or not this sundays episode is the last of the current series, which is crap imo.

Not that its been that good this time, but Id still like to see more than 6 of them.

It needs a kick up the arse and they need to get fingers back on the pulse quickly. To echo the comments above, regardless of how good this final episode is this series has been somewhat underwhelming to say the least.

If I worked for the BBC, which unfortunately for them I dont :P I would be getting heads together to think of where to take it next, firstly they need a format change, 6 shows on the spin isnt working, the car industry is moving too quickly and the current filming window for news and relevant features is far too small to provide any kind of indepth insight as to whats currently out there, or, to present an article or piece thats relevant to current times or whats on the horizon. The show currently is reporting on things that anyone with a casual interest in cars has already at least heard of, or have read about in depth on the internet for example.

If the current presenters cant get on board for a little and often approach (filming two sets of three, or three sets of two in the year) sack them off for someone who can, 6 shows in a row that runs out of steam and ideas or a punchy fresh couple 3 times a year? I know which one I would plump for.

Top Gear isnt solely an entertainment show, part of the entertainment is to find out exclusives and feautures on things that are brand brand new, which unfortunately they seem to be doing less and less of.

 :stupid:

Some good points there.

Id get rid of Hammond, hes pointless.
Less 3 blokes larking about.
Get rid of the stig and get the German bird in.
Get rid of star in a sh*t car - theyve made it even more boring - do random audience member in a car instead.
James May to do a proper car review every week without the stupid car vs pogo stick stuff.
Do shorter shows, like  half hour long.
Less scripted stuff, or get someone who can write scripted stuff without making the presenters look retarded.

So when was the last time you thought the show was like this?

The humor just aint all that anymore in previous seasons I was laughing really hard at some of the sections, this season just hasnt done any of that for me...

Hammond is a nice guy, I enjoy watching his car reviews and it would suck to see him go, but its not the end of the world.
I think the Stig could and maybe should stay, he provides an important benchmark for the cars  8-)

Star in a car is booooring, two things that could so so easily perk it up, one spend less time watching the lap, its crap. Two, how about going out of the studio and actually looking at what they arrived in, theres an idea ffs, oh wow a variable factor that can provide numerous non boring talking points (this could be very funny)

Quote from: Poison_UKSo when was the last time you thought the show was like this?

Do you mean when was it last good? hard to say really, the artic special was good but that was purely entertainment, dont get me wrong I really enjoyed the R35 GTR feature as Im totally stoked about the car in general, I love my JDM cars.

However I had already read in depth and watch videos on it at nihoncar in January!

Same with the new Evo X, both the GTR and Evo X have large indepth videos on Gran Turismo TV that were out months ago, ok not everyone has a PS3 but you get the picture.

I just feel the shows being left behind, and some of what they report on by the time it hits air is frankly stale.
