Hey All,

Do insurance companys class upgrading your headunit to say a Sony one a car mod? As a couple of people have told me that insurance companys still think that the smallest things like Audio and Upgraded headunits need to be delcared on the insurance, Im sure this is wrong as the Headunit does not increase the cars performace at all! What do you guys think??

Thanks all - Liam

I would think they wouldnt deny a claim because of it, but unless its declared they may not cover the unit itself
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Liam

If i am right some insurance companys provide free Audio cover when you take out insurance like my Quinn policy, im not bothered if anything happened to my headunit if i were in an accident its worth less than £40 now lol

Ive never informed my insurance company of a change of head unit but bear in mind a lot of cars are sold without one, its an extra for some people. Or a least a better than factory one is. Its only ever really going to be an issue if the car is stolen, but would you tell them of uprated speakers, a new chrome gear knob, etc? Depends where you want to draw the line.

Phone them up and ask, see what they say. It cant hurt either way.

Its only came up as a issue as I am due to renew my insurance in less than a month away & I am likely going to go with Churchill but they dont insure anyone with mods if you are under the age of 25 and i will be 20 in a weeks time, i will give them a ring & explain my story and see what they say.

Thanks - Liam

They wont care. Most policies Ive had say they cover the first £500 worth of audio stuff or there abouts.

You have to use a little common sense. Stuff they care about:

Big exhausts
NOS
24" rims

Stuff they dont care about:

Air fresheners
Seat covers from Argos
Stick on plastic chrome crap for the interior
Radios
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

From what I understand there is a budget for Audio equipment.  Its usually £500.  Check your policy.  Anything after that is your risk.

Insurance companies arent here to insure our listening pleasure.

Liam

Yeah my existing Quinn policy covers me for loss of Audio Equipment as well, if i remember right they cover it up to around £300. Going to see if i can see anything about it for Churchill.

Well just been on the phone to Churchill and guess what, they do class upgraded car stereos a mod LMAO! So if i chose to go with them i would have to stick my Original Ford stereo back in the car.

Just swap it out if you ever have a problem and need to show them the car, theyll never know otherwise ;)
