Title: Tyre Thread Again.
Post by: Poison_UK on April 23, 2008, 21:35:13 PM
Im looking at the following for the Golf.

195/45 R15s Prefer V Rating and 78 Load

Toyo Proxes T1-R 195/45 R15 V ( 78 ) Set of 4 253.32 Fitted.
http://www.blackcircles.com/information?modelid=8551404&cid=912&productid=10943092

or

Barum Bravuris 195/45 R15 V ( 78 ) Set of 4 184 Fitted.
http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ts/search/tyredetails.aspx?code=1954515BA1V

Is it worth the extra cash for the Toyo Proxes or can anyone put forward better any other tyres? The car in General is built for dash acceleration with fast cornering not majorly high top speeds.

toyo proxes are sh*te - theyre unmentionably bad

the side walls flex so much theyre like dough. One came off the rim on me on the activa.

Get a set of F1s on there for general use. Nothing to touch them in the mid price range sector

I would agree with this.  Also, avoid the Eagle NCT5s.  They are great until you are in the cold and wet, then they are too damned slippy!

I really like my T1-Rs, theyve been reliable in hard cornering and predictable, even in the wet. I know Mark doesnt rate them though. The best alternative is Goodyear Eagle F1s, which are usually a few pounds more and I intend to try those next.

Ive had no experience or heard anything of the Barum Bravuris. Everyone on MX5OC forums and plenty of others all swear bye Eagle F1s or the Proxes. Looks like I was a little slow to hit the post button :)

Same here on the T1RS, never had any problems. I would also like to try the F1s, but every time I got a quote for them in the past they have been significantly more.

Got Falken fk452s alround on mine, better than the previous Conti SC2s and F1s.

Indeed - MONSTER grip in the dry (pish in the wet) and they look cool to boot
