Got my cruise control kit from conrad anderson on saturaday and decided to give fitting it ago today. http://www.conrad-anderson.co.uk/cruisecontrols/GC50-cruisecontrolkit.htm

its pretty straight forward now i look back on it, but i really struggled tbh as the instructions are very badly translated from german and made things sound alot more difficult or just didnt make any sense.

here are some pics:

Dash In Pieces(almost finished at this point, forgot to take earlier pics) :

Clutch switch bracket:

ECU (mounted this behind the centre console, id given up being neat with cable by this point :p):

This is where I got the 12v ign feed(YR) and the speed sensor feed (orange):

Brake Switch:

Actuator(why is it blue!! looks daft, the cable is way to long so has to go all around the engine bay):

Vacuum Supply(i was abit worried i td in the wrong place, but it seems fine after a few long tests):

The throttle control:

Cables for the Actuator(couldnt find anywhere to put them through so had to squeeze them with the aircon exhaust):

Final Pics (I dont really like where it is, coz it is a pretty big ugly thing so might have to make something of my own, or even try and use an OE switch):

only major problem I had was with the speed sensor signal, but that was sorted by cutting a cable loop on the ecu.

It ended up taking alot longer than I expected mainly due to me pooing my self at every original cable i had to break into, i must have used my RAVE cd a million times today, would probably only take a few hours to do again.

Anyway thats it, it works great holds speed perfectly up and down hills, ready for the drive to Italy I wanna do in the summer.

Looks pretty nifty, just a shame they made it that colour.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Where are you planning to go in Italy? I recommend psyching yourself up before tackling the Tangenziale ;)

no where exciting, either Lignano or Lido de Jeselo just nice relaxing beach places. planning on 20days, 3 driving each way and 14 at the site.

Brave man. Id never mess with lectrics short of installing a radio and changing plug wires.

Ive got cruise, but rarely use it, as the lane discipline in the states is usually so piss poor that you have to actively drive most of the time. Good when you need to stretch your legs of course. :P

Im waiting for an "auto-tiller" for when Im driving across Montana, where you can just point your laser sights at a place on the horizon, then let go of the wheel and take a nap. :D

mr_roll

Thats cool!

Want to come with us on a drive to Italy instead ;)

Binary Shadow

cool, im not a huge fan of cruise but iv used it a couple of times in the RaRo and found it easier than holding the speed myself, usually when towing tho tbh

mwahaha. reminds me of installing the digidash in my woo...  I did a lot of prior planning though so I was pretty sure I knew what I was doing and didnt get any problems on the job.

I was gonna say could the OE switch not be made to work with the kit? would be great if you could.

thats the next plan, i dont see why not tbh, i could have done it this time but was too scared to take the steering wheel off and mess with the sliprings etc

soopahfly

sloppy. what ever happened to the days of splicing, solder and heatshrink?

pointless, the connectors i used are a great design and will easily standup to the movement, vibration etc
most the connections would have been way to awkward to solder anyway, being in the footwells upside down isnt easy, wouldnt fancy dripping solder on my face :P

it isnt the neatest job but its all out of sight, safe and secure.

Mark

I agree with grandad - In 1990 I tapped into a couple of wires on an electronic ignition kit on an old talbot. The connections are STILL perfect.

Binary Shadow

nice chassis number there ;)

Driving in Italy can be exciting in itself, the more so the further south you go!

That looks as if you will be going round the Tangenziale, if you come down through San Gottardo. North eastern Italy is very beautiful, if you get a chance drive back up through the Dolomites to Austria and across to Switzerland. You can avoid French peage tolls by going through Belgium, Luxembourg, to Freiburg Germany then down to Basel in Switzerland. Fuel is cheaper in Switzerland than the rest of Europe! Beware you need a fiche (motorway tax badge) to drive through the Swiss motorways, cheaper to buy before iirc. Switzerland is a good place to stop over on the way and cheap to stay if you pick a ski hotel at the bottom of a valley near the motorway in the summer.
/me stops being guidebook
