Why?

New tektro levers, new tektro callis and pads on new(ish) open pro rims.  Front is fine, back is dodgy.  Seems you have to move the lever quite a way before the caliper gets much motion.  Dodgy cable?  Ill try to get some pics up of the cable routing in detail later.  At the moment Im hopping the rear wheel while breaking to induce a skid which looks wicked but will eat my tyres pretty quick.

sh*tty cables, crap routing, toe in..could be anything. FWIW, you can make anything brake well with persistence--the circa 50s chrome steel arms with original cable on me girl bike--add Konti pads, spacers, and Tekro levers--it stops on a dime, without any sort of girllike finesse.

Not if youve cracked the seat stay cross brace...thats how my old DiamondBack went in the end.

Bah, just stop by the car body place, bring the boys a six pack, and have them tack it back in place. That part of the frame has nothing to do with the structural integrity of the bike, its just a place to whack a brake or fender mounts.

Well once it was cracked the rear breaks wouldnt  lock up on the back wheel. Its was time to be retired anyway.

Could be what I had, a crusty rubber noodle cover.

The noodle would crush and allow pretty much zero force to be applied to the rims. If your noodle is hard and you cant easily squish the rubber with your fingers, chances are it just needs replacing.
