With the old old Jettas it was the notorious breaking door handles. They solved that, but now its the daggum power windows. :panic: Whirrrrr, crackle crackle. Im to drive out and drop it with my favorite east European, Emil, then ride home ten miles on the fixed gear. He fix, make goot! Woohoo!

:D <---- insincere

Im doing a bit of DIY on mine on the drivers side, Im hoping the rails just need a good spray of white lithium grease to stop it sticking. Its at the point where it wont wind down at all now without a push to get it going. Im hoping at worst it will be time for new pulleys.

Check out the switch, I had the same problem and the contacts were covered in soot. Bit of filing sorted it.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

electric windows are pretty horrific on a lot of cars, had an astra that popped the rivets off inside the door and the whole assy dropped.

always breaking on some cars

I checked the contacts and they seem fine, I couldnt see any black marks when I had the switch out after taking off the centre console to change the gear gaitor. Do I need to dissassemble the switch further or would it instantly be evident? Passenger side window runs fine btw.

Itd be evident yah. When you strip down the window check out the winder drum, the plastic is kinda soft so gets chewed up.

Replacing the drum & cable is a 1hr glass-out job. 10mm & 12mm spanners iirc.

Cheers for that, I wouldnt even have thought about checking something like that too. Theres plenty of guides for this though, and at least I seem to have all the tools for a change.
