Does anyone have any experience dealing with those third party warranty companies you can pay a small monthly fee to and get a warranty on your vehicle? Our's has just done 30,000 miles so is now out of manufacturers warranty, and the piece of mind from having it covered was immense.

What do you chaps think, are they worth paying for, or is a two year old, 30,000 mile car not likely to have enough problems just yet to warrant it?

I've never had one but I have heard alot of positive stuff about the AA one.

What exactly is your 'small monthly fee'? I would imagine most problems (other than catastrophic ones you would not expect on a car that age that hasn't even had a timing belt change) could easily be fixed by setting aside that same money paid each month for the warranty policy in savings instead, as an emergency fund. I would also imagine any problems from it being a new car that needed remedying would have been done by now.

You've barely run in the engine really, I personally wouldn't pay for any warranty like that on a car that new, seems more logical to me for an older car perhaps. Having said that, almost all my cars have been over 10 years old and have never had what I would consider a catastrophic problem, or if they have developed age related problems then they were cheap enough when bought that it was no loss selling them on. I still wouldn't take one out though, I just try not to buy cars that are fault prone or expensive to maintain, which sadly new cars are becoming as they make everything more bespoke, expensive and harder to deal with for mechanics.

That was a bit of a rambling post but hopefully some food for thought.

Read the small print and search google e.g. Company name issue etc to see how much negativity is posted about them.
