Hmmsk.  The time has come to strip off the orrible sparkly black paint on my singlespeed and respray it.  Im going to do this myself as I have an aversion to spending money.

Currently, it looks like this:

Plan is to strip off the paint tomorrow, then go down to halfords and buy some primer and auto paint.  Just need to decide what colour I want now.  Im torn between something really subtle like grey or satin black and yellow.

So anyone got any tips for painting bikes?  Or any reccomendations on a colour?

Sand sand sand. Prime. Sand. Prime. Sand. Color. Color. Clearcoat. Clearcoat.

I vote for green bean green. Black is good, but looks sh*t on a home job.

Hmm, not sure on green.

Is it strictly necessary to clearcoat it?  I dont really want it too glossy.

if your using cans, starts spraying a few cm infront of the object your spraying, same goes for teh end of teh pass, to reduce platter..

you can achieve anycolour you want as long as you prepare well enough :)

Cools.  So what do we reckon?

Grey:

Green:

Yellow:

Or my own personal fave...

BIANCHI CELESTE LOL!11!!:

Ive always thought that the bianchi Nirone has the sexiest paintjob in the entire world.  Wonder how hard it would be to do...  :?

Duck Egg Blue, like the best Spitfire underbelly  8)

You could look for a Matt laquer, instead of a gloss one, to dampen down the look of it.

Yellow mate out of those things, the bianchi colours look like a 1980s bathroom suffering from excessive UV exposure (faded colours).

The grey could be good but I know what bike your basing that on then :) yours and Maxs will be indistinguishable from each others :P

What about a deep blue colour? or a Navy colour even?

Burn the heathen.

Yes, I know grey isnt exactly original, but it looks so subtle.  I love it.  Im thinking of flipping my bars upside down and sawing the drops off, so at least it wouldnt be absolutely identical :D

As for blue, Ive already got a blue bike.  Cant have two!

Just a normal Green... It looked pritty smart in the photoshop :)

Shocking PINK! :D

TBH I think it would look good as metallic silver-grey ;)

Yarr.

Primer goes on tomorrow.

[edit] My lawn mower says "Rear Discharge".  arf.

Oh, check out my fly metalworking skills.

I can just hear it now:
"fc9k, wheres your mech hanger gone?  Bed me now!"

maximusotter

Dang, what did you strip it with?

Make sure to remove any derailleur cable guides while youre at it. ;) Leave the eyelets, as a fendered single speed is the bomb in the winter.

EDIT:

Sheeet, looks like you got the shifter bosses as well.
