[sigh]

We as in Germanys National Football Team.  I support them and have done since 1998 (long story).

I was born in Britain and have a British passport, if youre implying the opposite.

Deaths Head

I still believe England will win!
I should get Believe! on the back of my new England shirt.  Now that all of the sales on them have started...

So long as Wesley Sneijder doesnt get the golden boot I will be pleased. I had the chance to bet on him when he was 15/1 and didnt :(

There have been several almost identical articles over the competition so far.

Remember though, if they win they are just a bunch of damn lucky cheating Krauts, and if they lose they were just plain rubbish! :P

Youre mistaking Germany for any South American team.   -)

Whats with all the hate for Germany? If youre trying to be sarcastic or funny then please excuse me, Ive obviously got the wrong end of the stick. However, if youre not I just dont understand where all this hatred is coming from, or why.

Also, and this one is for Eagle, is that I really dont understand how you can "support" Germany and consider yourself "one of them" when it seems you have no ties to the fatherland in any shape or form and are in fact 100% English/British. This has come from one of your earlier posts.

For a start it really confuses me, and secondly it really grinds my gears too. Youre English, you support your national team, thats how it works. Its not like club football where you can choose the team you support from a number of different factors; such as locality, style of play, good old glory hunting or even how good their away kit looks on your girlfriend.
I just do not understand how you can even come to that decision. I mean, national team is more than just supporting a club. Its the whole national identity. Do you hate the dutch? do you cheer on Germany in any other sports? If so do you completely ignore sportsmen from Great Britain? do you eat bratwurst, drink becks and go to oktoberfest wearing lederhosen?

If you dont, then Im not sure you can use the pronoun "us" when referring to the German national team

There is of course nothing wrong with supporting Germany. I myself wanted them to do well at the tournament, and after they had beaten England there was nothing really stopping me from wanting them to do well. It would have been wrong, however, to have wanted them to do well when playing against England.
I dont think they would have beaten spain in the final, had they not met in the semi finals that is. Spains style doesnt really leave them open to many pacy counterattacks that Germany seemed to favour.

I think the best game of the tournament was the Italy v Slovakia game. It felt almost like a semi final really, or at least a knockout match (thats because it was ;)) It was literally one end to the other in the final 20-30 mins. The officials had some tough calls in that game, but I feel they got it right (incidentally the ref in that game was Howard Webb). I remember ITV banging on about how good the linesman was, so good in fact that when someone was offside he gave it as offside.
I honestly don know how ITV got the coverage of the World Cup, it was just so f**king sh*t. They had a sh*t presenter in Chiles, then they had that wanker andy townsend, some black dude called lucas (never seen him before in my life) and edgar davids + gareth southgate. I left those two til last cause they were the only ones who I didnt think were c**ts.
The BBCs coverage, however, was excellent...........well apart from shearer and lee dixon, and maybe at times alan hansen for being too smug. But apart from that I think Seedorf was good, and so was Roy "Woy" Hodgson. Its just a shame that Lineker doesnt get to be a pundit himself, with him having to host it and all. I reckon hed knock the others into a cocked hat if he was allowed to analyse stuff after the game and what not. Hed just be so eloquent and correct!

i hope youre not trying to appear to know football well yet not know who lucas radebe is/was to south african/premiership football?

good work on eagles character assassination though, i can never work out why people will choose a foreign team over their national team. its almost taking to the extreme the pursuit of being the one down the pub they call quirky just to get the edgy lass with the ring through her nose into bed.

Afraid I still dont know who that lucas fella is/was. Im kinda new to the football fan thing tho. Im 25 and for the first 18-19 years of my life wasnt really interested in football at all. So there are a lot of gaps in my knowledge and ive been trying to catch up, but never really looked into south african football
I wouldnt say Im that knowledgeable about football tho. I know what I know, but thats about it. Id like to think ive tried to find out more than the average casual fan has, but theres just so much info out there! I try not to come across as someone who claims to know football well but doesnt really, but as someone who is passionate about the game and all the subtle (and not so subtle) aspects of the sport.

I think its a difficult balancing act: On the one hand football is all about opinion and interpretation, but on the other hand I really dont want to come across as one of the turds in the pub that think they know everything about the game and will more often than not give you their opinion on every transfer/news article/tactical analysis/referee mistake. Theyre just grade A wankers.
But then I always give the people who are meant to know their stuff (pundits, managers etc) the benefit of the doubt, because they have done it and been there and Id wager that theyve forgotten more than Ill ever know about the game. There are of course some exceptions to this, Ian Wright being one of them.

ha fair nough.

i only give a sh*t cos he was a masive player for leeds for a long time and im a massive leeds fan.

I dont support any football team, havent watched a single game in the world cup. I happened to catch the result on yahoo while checking my mail.

As to hating Germany, I most certainly dont. Im just having a dig at Eagle for his comments about England.
