certain brands of car? I know some people wouldnt ever own a ford or a toyota or a vauxhall.. what i want to know is why? bad experience or whatever.

So please post up brands you avoid and why.. please dont just post cos they are sh1t or similar as it wont help me to understand.

I wont own:
A pug because 2 out of 3 my mate has had have broken down on him (306 and 206) and after being forced to drive a 307 200 miles.... noo the horror, was the most uncomfortable drive iv ever had.
A seat as a mate had one that was rusty as hell (was on an M plate and had more rust than my J plate astra) and fell cheap and horrible compared to my mk3 astra at the time.
A citreon because they are french lol ok no because i fear they will be as bad as pugs.. cept the C1.. my mates is nice (for what it is) and could grow on me but then its a toyota really.
A ford, just a hater really but generally i find them boring and all the fords we have had broke down and became heaps of rust far to early on.
A volvo, always got the headlights on and on the new ones they are stupidly bright in the day so i hate them.. and i still class them as old mans cars.
A rover (or MG), fitted a stereo in a 25 and it put me off them for life the dash was paper thin brittle plastic and the car was a mass of the stuff.... not only that the badge scream old man/sunday driver to me. Seen many an MGF on the side of the road broken down so no chance there either.

So come on.. why?? (especially those that dont like vauxhalls).

Fiat : I used to work at a Car Hire firm, and even brand spanking new they used to break, constantly.  Usually in a Big Way.  That included the Alfas we had for a while.  

Citroen : Every single one ive driven hasnt felt right.  The normal ones feel iffy when you corner too fast.  Not counting the Activa which is supposed to be amazing to drive.  I test drove a late model Xsara VTS last week, and even that felt crap.

Pug : See fiat, i know some people have great experiences with them, but they used to break nearly as often as the Fiat.  Not usually to the same level, but irritating things like the immobiliser locking people off, or the damn things just didnt start.  Pug make some really good engines, but they seem to lose it on a full car.  

Vauxhalls: piss poor build, mechanical museum pieces, all models still have more or less the same drab, pishy interiors. extreme spidey image of the so called sporty (read bad handling) models. They just dont try - release the same old pish every year with the same tired old range of rough engines

Actually, Ill add another that may seem an odd choice :

VW : Overpriced, overpriced and i will say again, overpriced.

You can get the same car with a different badge (SEAT or Skoda), with slightly different and styling for half the price 2nd hand.  Made on the same production lines half the time as well.  Yes they are good cars, but for the same price as an r-reg Golf you can buy an N-Reg C-Class.

oh yeah i forgot Fiat.. same reasons really, dodgy electrics in my mates.

Rovers are it as far as brands go for me.
Dire build quality and every person I encounter on the road driving one is a grandad (enough said), left their brain at home or is just a in general really.

Beyond that, I dont like Fiats at all, the build quality again seems terrible and they are just nasty cars to drive.

Citroen: loved the Xantia. The C3 however is the worst car I have ever driven. What a cheap and nasty piece of crap.

Any french car.

I currently have a renualt megane, ive had it from new since 2003 and had nothing but trouble with it.

Literally EVERYTHING has broken on it at one point or another; sunroof, lights, electrics, aircon, steering, breaks, heated seats, injectors, cylinders, clutch, gearbox, computer, list goes on and on.... and now it feel like the gear box is going, AGAIN.

Mileage? 45000...

Im now trying to sell it but nobody wants it, surprise surprise!

I now have a 2001 Skoda Octavia VRS and its brilliant, next cars will defo be in the VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda range without a doubt!

Vauxhalls & Fords
Ive been dumped with them for company cars enough times not to like them. Uncomfortable & very basic

Mercedes. You get very little for your money.

Skoda. Ill probably end up eating most of it  :mrgreen:

Honda, Subaru, BMW.  Purely because Im not "Driving to and from jobs verry quickly" and dont want to fit 20" ahmir khans to it.

That said, Id have an Integra Type R.

Pug.  Missus 206 had millions of problems, as did a colleagues 307.
Although again, id have a 205 GTi.

Id happily have another Fiat, Ford or Vauxhall.  Ive enjoyed driving each of the ones ive owned.  The Fiats had its fair share of problems but I love teaching my mates lessons in driving on the twisties from my house back to sheffield.  Mates Saxo VTR is a dot in my mirror when its really twisty

i avoid all french petrols, and diesels after 2000. French diesels before 2000 I would consider but it wouldnt be a 1st choice.

All Fiats, except the current models, they are pretty spot to be fair.

Most Mecedes, except myabe the Cclass coupe, most people i know with them have hugely expensive bills quartily.

Most fords and vaux, as I cant stand to be in a car that you can obviously tell its been costed down to the lowest penny, without regard for quality.

I dont have the fogiest where you all have ideas that Rovers quality is dire , obviously not from experience, and wouldnt buy one just because old people buy them, old people are sensible and dont waste money on crap.

Rovers.....from motor shows, car dealerships & friends who have one.

MG ZT for example, it doesnt make sense.  Walk around the car, there isnt one body panel that actually matches up properly.  Its all panel over panel.

Dire is being kind.

ive walked around 100s of them, panel gaps are equal all around on 99.9%. the only problem area on some is the front bumper where it meets the wing, but isnt bad at all.

im not going to keep posting like this if you want to beleive what you read from Clarkson or Honest John or other clueless journos then go ahead, enjoy your Renualts.

Rover - sitting in the mgf is so underwhelming (Id have another Cooper RSP tho).

Vauxhall - have never made an interesting or cool looking car. For some reason I always associate them with Matthew Kelly, and hes a knob.

VW - boring (mk1 golf, bus, beetle aside).

Audi - fast (sometimes) but dull.

Seat//Skoda/Companies That Make Cheap Knock-offs Of Proper Cars. Its like wearing a pair of hi-tek trainers.

Anything Citroen or Pug - apart from maybe the 182 or gt5 turbo or 205gti.

Anything Diesel - sorry but theyre naff and make you look like a cheapskate.

Nissan - not even a 350.

Smart - gay.

Saab - manbags and caffe lattes.

BMWs except for the Ms.
