If youve been on Englands motorways at all recently youll have seen these people patrolling in their jap 4x4s:

My issue is - these people should not be allowed to travel around in cars that look like police patrol vehicles - and travel at 70 mph.
When the police traffic cops patrol they know no bugger will attempt to pass them at 70mph as theyre afraid theyll be nicked for doing 71mph. So they have a standing order that they cruise at 60 or something, so as not to have a queue the length of a county behind them (of course they dont care if someone passes them at 80, theyre not fools).

But these traffic officers zoom along at 70 (or more!), and most motorists cant tell the difference, so now you see traffic blockages as people bunch up behind them.

Get them off the road! Or slow them down!

I think they do serve a purpose and can some times help in situations, for example: I was getting slower and slower in my Volvo when bringing it back from York 40mph on the motorway is pretty dangerous.

So I call the SOS people from the reddish phone boxes and they arrive and say they theyll escort me off the motorway until the AA can get there.

A traffic police man would have had to do that if they werent there and that would have taken his time up which could have been taken up by catching people do 73mph.

Maybe give them a different colored vehicle.

i find it easy to tell the difference, black and yellow for highways blue and yellow for pigs, not to mention the text highways agency on the damn things..  hear a lot of good things regarding them helping out so i say leave em be!

knighty

theyre deffo. a pain in the arse when you have to slam on the breaks untill youre close enough to see its not a copper car :o

Ceathreamhnan

Thats what I mean, you cant tell from hundreds of yards back.

Im not against the Highways Agency patrols per se, just the vehicle colours really.

Serious

You shouldnt be going faster than 70 anyway - so they stay :P

Mark

easier to spot here - most peeler cars have bulletproof glass

Eggtastico

If people cant spot them, they shouldnt be on the Road TBH

As they Have HIGHWAY PATROL in big RED letters on them

knighty

yeah its easy to see what they are when you slowly catch up on them and you have plenty of time....

but when its 4am and youre doing 120 you need to break asap when you see anything that "could" be a copper untill you know for sure its not ;)

Alien8

but its great when you spot its a HA car, and the outside lane is clear, as no one wants to pass, you can just fly past

Chris

All I want to know is why do they need environmentally unfriendly gas guzzling 4x4s?

DEViANCE

perfect eyesight here but some of them just have the highways agency bit written on the bumper in small writing.  If youre just bumbling along at 80-90 at general traffic speed and you spot one of them doing 70 then every brake light for miles around suddenly comes on.

You really cant tell them from cop cars at a a distance.  Why the hell they have to have a yellow and dark coloured checkerboard effect at all mystifies me.  Theyre not a real emergency service.  Flashing lights and a siren for emergencies is more than enough.
