I need to see that, You have a good story line but they have taken it and gone insane, the style of that movie looks amazing and I think this will be one of the quite big hits you get now and again, this looks like it could be really good.

Its certainly attention grabbing.  But apart from the art direction and some of the effects that are being used its not really making that good an impression.

But on the other hand, Sin City made that impression at first, which this is also another Frank Miller novel adaption I see.  I will have to wait and see what I hear about it.

I got the impression it was from the team behind Hero & Flying Daggers etc at first when the trailer first started, that and the name of the movie.

Clock'd 0Ne

It looks very good and very stylish. Reminds me a little of Chronicles of Riddick in places for some reason. I want to see it.

Looks downloadable!

Saw the trailer whilst in the company of a lass studying ancient history.

Its based on a true story. 300 men taking on the might of the persian empire and winning.

Sweenster

Mixture of asian cinematography, graphic novel styling and an ancient tale

Could be very good if done well

Could be the exact opposite if not.

Heres hoping.....

That was a rubbish film!

ERU

Heh... looks very Troyish

Like the slight exageration of numbers though tbh, has to be based on the battle at Thermopylae against the persians. Though there were only 300 spartans they where part of a larger greek army, by the time the Athenians, Thebans and Arcadians etc are accounted for it was topping 5000+ As for persia only around one and a half million are actual infantry the rest are cavalry which wouldnt get far in the Thermopylae pass anyway, ship crews, slaves, general dogs bodies etc, they did have some allies too mind.

Numbers involved are disputed to this day mind modern thought puts the Spartan Greek army size at a good 300,000 while the Persians would probably have mustered around half a million or so.

Oh and Persia won the battle, the Spartans where wiped out having been flanked and fighting to the last to secure the Greek armys retreat.

There no need to watch it now...

One other thing, Spartans where hoplites, they fought with spear and shield in a phalanx rather than jumping around with a sword. They did carry a sword but only in the sense a modern soldier has a side arm. Even the romans had a hard time against greek hoplites, tried tested and proven tactics, mindyou that wouldnt make much fun in a film would it i guess.

M3ta7h3ad

lol well the trailer shows shield formations and spears.

Its only the more dramatic one on one battles in the trailer where the sword was drawn, where it is safe to assume that the spartan soldier had lost their primary weapon, and in fact was reduced to using his "sidearm" :)

Hmmm... @ your other info, guess missy was wrong :D ahh but she was fit so thats all that matters :D lol

Serious

Looks like they have over used both the artistic licence and computer graphics, some of the scenes are obviously CG and not even up to LOTR:ROTK standards.

As for the Spartans, Greeks were almost exclusively heavy infantry, with full armour, not just spear and shield. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoplite

Chances are the Persian Army numbered about 120,000 a number much reduced from that claimed and the Greek one (the Spartans were not alone!) at least 5,000. The Persians would have to supply their army and getting that much food to your troops would be a pain in the period covered, never mind that for the 2.7 million Herodotus reports.

M3ta7h3ad, you are right that they would only draw sword under those circumstances, but the whole idea of the Greek infantry at this time was to maintain a tight, uniform, formation. The spears formed a wall to both keep the enemy back, so they couldnt use their own weapons, and to kill. A phalanx loosing integrity could be easy meat for an attacking force, if you were a Greek hoplite you certainly didnt want enemies inside your formation. This is how the Romans managed to beat them, use the pilum to break the formation and then get inside.

They also suffered badly when faced with light (read naked) javelin armed troops, who could run circles around them and had effective weapons against the armour, unlike the Persian bowmen!

/serious admits to playing ancient war games in a club...
