Someone is telling me that if a 3G phone is taken into an area thats not covered by a 3G network, it wont have the ability to fall back to GSM. This seems absolutely ridiculous to me and I cant find anything to confirm this online so can anyone tell me either way?

tbh, depends on the phone, i know there were a couple of dodgy 3g phones at the start of the generation that had solely UMTS as it was assumed the network would be 100% by the developers, dont ask me to name which as i paid little attention to 3g back then.

As far as i know every phone now that has UMTS also has tri-band if not quad-band gsm

It normally falls back to the o2 network.. which I find unreliable than the rest! I get  a 3 signal in areas where my vodaphone cant.

Unless it something unique about the phone you have, ie lacking GSM or somethign silly, then Yes it will fall back.

Utter rubbish.

Utter rubbish.

You can disable the auto search function, so it wont move from G3

Yup this is lies.

Ive yet to find a phone that doesnt fall back to GSM (and working for an SMS company - use a lot of different phones)
