Hi All

Just wondering how many of you have tried a 4 drive RAID 0 setup?

Ive got 2 250GB Hitachi T7K250 and have 2 more coming, really tempted to have a 1TB RAID 0 setup :D

Ill have backups of important stuff and I have a nice nifty unattended Windows install disk with SP2 and drivers and stuff, so not much hassle to reinstall ;)

No problem on a gaming rig - providing you have proper backup :)

knighty

Ive got 6 80gig Sata2 drives in raid 0

built for speed, not storage :)

all depends if you have somewhere else to store all your important stuff :O

om a side note... are you using onboard raid? a software raid card, or a hardware raid card ?

Im unsing the software onbord stuff.... but Im not sure if I should get a hardware card instead.... my thinking behind the onbord was that it;s sata2 so can run at 300mb/sec... where as the PCI buss a card would be plugged into would top out at 133mb/sec (iirc)

No, want pure speed, got backups elsewhere.

Onboard nForce 4, so its a hardware solution.

isnt that the pc equivalent of playing Russian roulette with a single shot dueling pistol?

Beaker

4 identical drives, preferably from 4 different suppliers.  Failing that you want to get 2 from 2 different suppliers in the hope of getting different batches.  Personally I would recommend RAID0+1 if you want speed & reliability.  Youve got massive read speeds with a 0+1, and the write speed wont be too shabby either.

Are you sure?  Most onboard raid is not hardware but software.

Pretty sure, CPU usage is next to nothing when Im doing disk intensive stuff.
