Lo folks,
Got a swift question ... a friends Antec SP-500P 500w 24-pin PSU has blown again. I think his house has dodgy wiring but thats another story.
While he is waiting for me to RMA his PSU could i put a 20pin PSU in the computer for the time being with no ill effect? I have no idea what the extra 4 pins are for but im thinking they might be for extra stabilty like the extra 4 plugs on the old socket A.
I know it wont work but im crutching at staws :) . What do you think? Need a quick fix.
No, to do that you need an adapter, it will not post without the extra rails.
Ah an adapter ... tell me more ... google pics
Actually it might work with a normal 20-pin atx psu.
I have an asus A8N-SLI that has a 24-pin connector, but you can still use a standard 20-pin supply with it.
Itll either say in that manual if itll work, or just try the 20-pin one.

Ah cheers i knew there was a reason i come to these forums :)
Ill try just the 20-pin PSU (i.e a 400w Qtec) providing it wont damage the motherboard an get the adapter if it dont.
I used a 20pin on an Abit 24pin mobo and it worked fine.
i actually have the opposite problem.
My 24pin psu didnt fit my 20pin mobo :)
