nothing to do with the Nashville no-derailer, but:

QuoteModem Status     Connected
DownStream Connection Speed    5056 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed    448 kbps

Just have to wait to see how good Mr BT decides my line is... :?

madmax

still waiting for my upgrade at home  :(

some site reckons 3.5 mbps if im lucky though, wish it was the same as works, 8megabits down, 832kbps up, jammy bloody gits!!!

if you play lots of games, try to make sure they leave interleaving off

Plusnet allow you to jump the queue if you want, though I thought I was supposed to get an e-mail saying it was happening. Speed tests show about 3.2 Mb, though this varies and its supposed to be part of the 10-day test.
/goes to reboot router again

madmax

where do i do that? im with force 9 (different brand of plusnet)

dont wanna pay for a marginal increase from 2mbps tbh
quite happy sitting on all these referals that knock about Ã,£5 a month off the rental tbh :D

Ceathreamhnan

Force 9 eh? Youve been with them even longer than Free-online users like me! (though the parent company is called Force9 I believe). Any way - you go to http://portal.free-online.net/wizard/?wizard_id=20
Now this url is for the Free-online version of the portal; obviously your url will be different, as will the one for Plus-net branded users. But you can find the direct link from the discussion forums in the Member Centre, under the Community Support and "DSLMax & Alternate Network Supplier - FAQ" thread - there ought to be an identical section within your portal.
You can opt to ask to jump the queue; it just raises a support ticket to let the admin know that you want to. If all the above fails, you could just raise a ticket to that effect. If youve been a subscriber for a number of years youre probably high up the list anyway, as theyre doing them in loyalty order I believe.

Ive got the huge total of 50p off for referral  However my employer have settled on a policy to pay for home broadband subscription - but only Ã,£15-worth

evilsly

Ive been on 8mbit for a few months (840k a sec downloads)

going to 16mbit in a few weeks :)

ah the joys of an isp with a genuinely unlimited policy.

Here at parents house they upgraded the line to 8mb but only getting 2.2 since we are far from the exchange.

Ceathreamhnan

It was less than a fortnight after I put in the request, although I only noticed the router speed change by accident! It does say in the ticket that theyre supposed to send an e-mail advising theyre starting too...

Pete

I raised a ticket and its been open since 07/05 - 13:49:28pm...

Well it seems my "evaluation process" is complete, and on average I seem to get about 2.5Mb. But it does seem very variable, I have had up to 3.6Mb and sometimes down to 400k!
I moaned about this and the lack of e-mail, and they did apologise, and asked me to use the official BT speed checker (hidden on a pLusnet test page) that changes your account so you are only connected to BT and not the Internet, to test it.
And of course now BT have suspended use of the mass upgrade order tool while they sort out the mess, seemingly quite a lot of people whove been upgraded complaining about the speed variability (on all ISPs).

Mark

Im getting an estimate of 4.5 Mbps at my new place - wonder what I can realistically expect. Gets installed next week with a bit of luck
