Dear All,

which procesor gives the best bang for your buck.  I have looked at the performance benchmarks for different processors however Intel always seem to be double the price for a processor that has a little more power than an AMD of similar performance.  Any ideas?

Lots of Love

intel. core 2 duo is the thing to buy atm.

Chuck Norris

If you compare though a core 2 duo 2.4 to an athlon 64 X2 5000+, the AMD is  only about 75% the power of the core 2 duo, but is costs half the price.  That is what Im interested in, which processor has the bst play off between price and performance.

Ive been AMD all my life, but from what Ive heard Intel are the best out there all round atm. Cheaper and more powerful.

Although I have no specifics that just what ive heard on the grapevine.

Depends what you want it for...

I got a amd 6000+ as I was looking for a lot of raw power for moving files, extracting files, etc. & all the benchmarks I looked at, the AMD suited me better

Cypher

Its going to come down to how much you want to spend on the CPU.  Tell me how much and Ill look up some benchmarks.  I do suspect it will be a Core 2 though.

boxx workstations only supply in core 2 duo. amd cant compete atm.

Shakey

If youre looking for a >£90 cpu, then go intel core 2.
If youre looking for <£90ish and possibly more energy efficient, go AMD x2 energy efficient versions.

For a giggle let just say I want to spend £80-90 on a processor.  what is the best AMD and the best Intel I can get for that money?

£93 gets you a 5600+
£89 gets you an E4500

Not knowing much about AMD myself, which one is better for everyday use?

Thank you very gladly.

true

but why not go out and buy a core 2 duo 3.2ghz instead?

Because I dont want somthing monsterously powerful.  Thats the idea behind this thread, to determine what processor gives the best value for money in terms of processor power versus expense.
