I want to this use to power my speakers (obviously) and plug a cd player into. I do not want surround sound.

So which category is for me ?

I really want an Onkyo AV receiver (for 7.1 surround sound) but its $500 (US) or £799 in the UK :/

Poxy rip off Britan.

Why not just go for the Onkyo TX-SR605? Its £400 (well you can pick it up for  £380) and its the best surround amp out there right now.

Theres not much of a difference between it and the models above it.

Not to mention its won every award under the sun, has plenty of output power per channel and does all the HD audio codecs.

^ Going to have to look at that model now...

Cheers for the offer Sam, I might just have to take you up on that :)
