When inserting USB-stick or attaching other mowable storage this window asks what one wants to do play movie, show pictures or do nothing.
I never use it, how do I make it not pop up ever ?
Isnt there a right click - properties option to stop it auto playing ?? I remember switching it off on a DVD-drive?
Well, I do not want to have to do it for each device.
if you use the same usb device alot, e.g. an external usb hard drive. what ive done is mount the usb as a folder on the c:/ drive and then created a shortcut to it on the desktop for easy access, it also means that the same device will be associated with the mount folder each time its plugged in, whereas windows usally mounts it as a drive in my computer and gives it the next available letter.
i used these instructions here:

dawlton.
also forgot to mention, it will stop that popup for you.

Good stuff but I do not want to mount to C: which is the only option :(
I want to mount on a shared disk.
Seems like I have to do for each unit anyway.
Try opening my computer, right click on drive, properties and then the AUTOPLAY tab...
Select the kind of file, action to perform, take no action.
I know how to do one by one just do want to have to do it for each new device.
How many Mass Storage Devices are you packin Bear?
couple of sticks, a movable HDD 10 Gb, camera which I move betwix two puters with the same annoying popup.
So 4 devices then ... erm ... "lazy" is the word of the day ;)
It should have a tick box "do not ask me this again"
This one?

What about Take No Action combined with Always do the selected Action
That was what I thought, but no cigar :) I have looked in all obvious places thought tweakUI would have something but no.
Its an issue that seems to affect some computers, TBH on one of mine it never worked anyway and I ended up using the drive properties option. If you only have four drives then it shouldnt take long anyway.
im pretty damn sure you can disable the autoplay on removable drives somewhere in xp. Damned if I can remember where though! :(
I did it somehow, for when I plug in my mass-storage camera under XP. Cant for the life of me remember how. :lol:
With Gnome its System/Preferences/Removable Drives and Media. :lol: Easy. :D
XP is full of annoying popups :P
Start -> Run
gpedit.msc
Administrative Templates -> System
Find "Turn off Autoplay", double click, enable it and then in the drop down box choose "all drives".

THATS THE BADGER! :)
Tried it and put a stick and got the pop up :( seems to work with the CD players only.
You have used more time complaining about it in this thread than just doing what I said! :lol:
