Title: another flipping upgrade
Post by: shofty on May 28, 2008, 09:30:23 AM
is this a good spec? is there any gaping holes? am i missing massively a gfx card or is the onborad good enough?

i tend to do bits of photoshop, lots of dreamweaver, lots of firefox and a lot of desktop tower defense.

wouldnt mind being able to play call of duty 4 on it.

Do you actually do any heavy gaming, or heavy media processing?

right, question, cos ive been out of this hardware malarkey for longer than i care to admit

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139971
if i run that processor, do i need to run 1333 RAM, like this?
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142386

cos that appears to be DDR3 and the mainboard of choice
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143173

doesnt appear to run 1333 RAM, only 1200 and below.

god, how complicated is this?

The wolfdale [E8400] is a better short term choice, as for ram you can use DDR2 if you buy a mobo thats suitable, I would avoid DDR3 as the price hike outweighs any slight advantage.

My brother has one on a Striker Extreme with my spare 800mhz ram in it.
