There is nothing wrong with the original, this is just another case of people running out of ideas so they are rehashing quality movies and turning them all into Twilight.

It's beyond a joke now. Literally every review site out there bangs on about these reboot turds and yet still Hollywood continues to churn them out. Is it that they don't assess their takings for these films or is the problem really that there are too many clapping seals visiting the cinema and still paying to watch this junk? :disappointed:

I expect the latter, there will be a lot of people going because they remember the original.. but not to say that they will like the result, but once you've paid I'm sure they don't care if you like it or not!!

There are some good ones being done and have been done. The Batman movies are kind of a reboot but are awesome in my opinion.
Rise of the Planet of the apes is really good, enjoyed it a lot!

There are a couple of good films, but far more that are not.

New batman is one of my fave films, and will have to give planet of the apes a look, I also enjoyed Casino Royale, but don't think I have ever watched the original.

Maybe another thread needs to be started to list the good and bad remakes :)

A lot of it is subjective and of course there's these type of (what I would consider to be) re-adaptations such as Batman, Spiderman etc taking a comic book concept and having another go at it. These deserve a bit more merit and attention for what they are worth, Nolan's Batman films I'm sure no one could argue are just another reboot series.

But when you have so many iconic and cult films not bound to comic franchising possibilities and interplay that are being rehashed for the sake of it, with no good reason or no attempt made to take fresh look or approach from a different angle - all in the space of a few years - it becomes clear that this is not down to some artistic vision but pure greed. I know Hollywood thinks they are struggling but churning out dross will not help.

I bet its possible to count on your ten digits the number of successful remakes or series of remakes there have been.

Completely agree with what you guys are saying. It's always worth having another crack at source material, and things like comic books are constantly going back and reinventing themselves anyway so it's only logical that we'll keep seeing new film adaptations, but there are some films that really are one off's that should never be re-made, Beetlejuice being one of them. There's nothing whatsoever wrong with it; it's not looking dated, it's not fallen into obscurity, it's a true classic.

Couldn't have said it better. :stupid:

It is taking a long time but Dune is being redone. The Movie TV series was more faithul to the books and was very good but it lacked punch in a lot of places. The original Dune movie played liberties on the source material and introducing things that were not in the books.
The new movie has been on and off and through several re-writes and a few directors to find the right match. They seem to be making an effort to do it right. I read how they know what people liked of the original movie and also the TV series and the books. A balance between both should be awesome.

The original Dune I still am amazed by, the "CGI" was of the time and not great but the set and costume design and quality is better then many movies made today. Very high quality.
