OK my E2160 rig is working fine, overclocked by 15% without any problem but I suspect it can do a good bit more. Also its only got one DDR2 667 chip in.

So I can either double it up by adding another 1GB 667, add a 2GB 667 module or put in a pair of cheap 2gb 800Mhz jobs.

Its a cheap Foxconn G312MX board. Which is the best choice? Yes, I know that XP 32 bit cant use all of 4GB but its near enough and Im thinking of dual booting with a 64 bit Linux.

DDR 800 is cheap as chips these days, go get yourself 4GB and keep your 667 for spare

Can you change the FSB ratio? Or have you tried setting the RAM to 533?

Mine is weird. I set the FSB to 290 and the memory to 667 but sandra says its (the ram) only running at 488mhz.

edit: but yeah if youre buying new memory get 800mhz stuff.

I can get a 2gb 800mhz DDR2 Cas 5 for £17.99, so a pair for £36 plus £4 del. Im using the FSB to overclock so unless I can change the ratio then Im stuck.

The manual on this mobo is probably the worst I have seen, You have a quick start sheet detailing the sockets etc. to some extent but the actual manual doesnt add any detail to that, it basically covers the Bios and included utilities.

I fixed my memory now and its so much faster

"Memory flexibility" needs to be disabled for it to run 290:290.

Indeed, before they start going up in price as DDR got more expensive.  DDR3 is coming along.

Moved in my BFG 8800GTS OC from my other rig. Works very nice but might be faster with that memory upgrade

Where can i order the mem? im planning to upgrade my file server and the mem ur talking nicely fit my budget.
