Just the last few games of the champion of champions series to go and so far they have almost all been very good

For the americans and those who might not know about it. Countdown is a gameshow consisting of several word rounds followed by numbers. For words one of the contestants selects nine letters from 2 piles of randomised cards, one marked consonants, the other vowels and then have to make the longest word they can in 30 seconds, scoring one point per letter but you dont get any if your opponent has a longer word. a nine letter word scores 18 points.

Number rounds allows them to select six numbers from a grid of face down cards. A four by six group of small numbers 1-10 and four large numbers that are seperate 25,50,75,100. A computer then randomly selects a 3 didgit number they have to get to by using basic math (+-*/) in 30 secs.

Two contestants play several word rounds are followed by a numbers round and a break, part 2 is the same as the first, part three is two word, a number and the last round is a 9 letter anagram with 30 seonds to solve it.

Prize consists of relatively little, fail and its a goodie bag, series winners get an expensive dictionary set. Yep its cheap tv! but it also requires thinking and is supprisingly popular.

Its not the same with rat gob presenting it, although Carol looks finer by the day.

countdown is the best show ever. i watch it religiously!

I caught the first 10 minutes of it.  The first word they came up in the "champions of champions" high standard final was starfish. That  us the same word I came up with!!!!

I also got a seven on the second one.  "RETURNS"

I am by no standards intelligent when it comes to game shows like countdown.  I normally strugle with it.  

Seems the Yanks do have a version of it, except they pay people. $25,000 for a 9 letter word

One of my brothers colleagues was on Countdown and was champion.  He was also in champion of champions a few years ago.  He used to wear really colourful shirts, they had to spend a long time screentesting the shirts They may have been a bit bright for the cameras.
