Im not advocating this in any way but you ought to be aware of a few things:

* All operators can track an IMEI number on a phone (if you report a phone stolen then they can bar the IMEI number from all the network operators)

* It is possible to get the location of a mobile phone down to an accuracy of 500m

* It is possible for companies to get your mobile number merely by visiting their wap/web site (ok they need to be accredited buy the operators)

* Most UK operators now make you pass through their content proxy servers so they can track everything you are doing

... oh and on a slight different topic - anyone have a oyster card, all your journeys are tracked and kept on a database that the police have access to....

Big Brother

I should hope so tbh.

I should also hope its linked to TFLs website which links your travel with your credit card as well.  Oyster seems one of the best ways of tracking people across London tbh.  The raw information on where people are moving alone must be worth a fortune.

lol... anyone who takes part in loyalty schemes gets similar "tracking" done.

Tesco Clubcard, Nectar...

All collect personalised data on your shopping habits everytime you use your card.

White Giant

And people get paranoid about Google.

Tesco are collecting info on your toilet roll!

loyalty cards are the biggest source of custumer information on the planet. short of tracking credit card numbers and your mobile.

Eggtastico

but this is tracking your shares & god know what other 3rd party apps.

IMO its as bad as a word document being sent to MS everytime one is created, edited & saved.

I dont care if im being tracked to where I am. Dont really care if they are tracking what sites im on, but Id be pissed off if I was being tracked on what I bought by a 3rd party - say my ISP

So, erm, not the biggest source of customer information on the planet?  :?:
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

Indeed and anyone who thinks they are saving money by having one is sorely deluded.

If you work it out then you really arnt getting that much back based on what you spend in a supermarket and having a "loyalty" means you are more likely to shop at that supermarket and not go elsewhere.

Theyre more a useful way to "save up" money.

Nectar card is anyway... Dad always buys petrol at BP... has an insane amount of nectar points, and has bought several christmas presents using the points at argos and whatnot for people :)

Considering his fuel is paid for by his company... its a nice way of getting something for nothing in his case, and its a nice way of saving too :)

Of course it is. You can check it yourself, Ive caught my house mate using my spare one a few times because of this. Every bus and tube station you walk through is listed.
