Title: Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Dead!
Post by: Eagle on September 11, 2015, 22:16:05 PM
My Arctic Freezer Pro 7 has stopped working.   :panic:  Tried various other pins around the board but nothing...

I suspect it's probably not in production any more so any suggestions as to what fan will fit on the grille thingy?  Will the latest Rev.2 fit?

I really don't want to have to install another CPU cooler!   :worried:

They do seem to have spare parts available:

I've had my eye on this one http://www.cryorig.com/c7.php looks like the simplest one to fit, look at the video on their site. :P

Tempted to upgrade to Skylake soon.

That's what I need to know - does the Rev 2 fan fit on the older heatsink? :)

Edit: just seen they do the original, thanks. Thing is, I need it today so gonna have to bag a Rev2 complete unit - if it will fit.

Update:

Bought a Rev 2.0 and it fits fine. Works too!  Idle 50-55c Load 61-68c. Bit high for a Q6600 QuadCore, I know but the innards do need a dust out...

I'm using Open Hardware Monitor to view temps but it's a bit flaky with detecting the CPU fan (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't) - is that a software or hardware issue?  Any recommendations for better software (keep it simple!)?

Also, there's a setting in the BIOS for the fan to be controlled according to temperature... 'Q' something or other.  Is it better just to switch that off and have the fan on max all the time?

...and another thing.  The software reads the Cores as:

Core #1 50.0c
Core #2 48.0c
Core #3 44.0c
Core #4 42.0c

Should there be such a big difference between the four cores?  ???
.

QFan I think you mean, to be honest it depends what you find more distracting, a constant RPM or the fan shifting up and down as the CPU heats/cools. personally I find whirring up and down more distracting. Try both for a day each, see how you get on?

Probably a good idea. Normal desktop stuff shouldn't be an issue temps-wise and I can always switch to constant before a (rare these days) gaming session. Cheers!

with ndecent case temos Q fan stuff is pretty good, stays about the same speed and only changes slowly
if your case temps are high it's up and down all the time :-(

your temps look a bit high to me, especially idle temps....  thermal paste ok ?

it's normal for core temps to be off a bit, the temp sensors aren't that accurate, but yours look off by more than I normally see... could be paste again or maybe heat sink has ended up a bit wonky so one corner isn;t making proper contact ?

It was assembled by yours truly in 2007 (I think) and I've moved several times.  So you may be right and it possibly needs a re-seat and renew the paste.  I'll probably do it next month before Fallout 4 comes out.   That said, it runs Elite Dangerous just fine on max so I'm not worrying too much.  ;)

Cheers!
