Anyone use any?

Ive just given trixbox a try, and its excellent - it has as many features as callmanager express (Well, nearly) and I had it working with my SIP firmwared 7970 and 7940s in under 40 mins through my sipgate account.

Ive been toying with chucking an Asterix box together for a while now but I am still awaiting a decent Skype plugin :/

I curse the day I started handing out a skype in number. Although its the easiest *VoIP* tool out there, its a royal PITA to integrate into anything else :/

Get yourself a sipgate account with a free 0845 number.

Ill send you the inbound and outbound configs to get it up and running.

Im looking to this for a solution when I move out in about a week or so.

Just made my first call with voipuser there from one of my 7960s.

The rumoured 10 min cutoff didnt happen, but apparently the fair use weekly max is around an hour, and you need to generatea 1-1 call ratio inbound/outbound to pay for the free minutes. Failure to do so will have your account cut off. You can also contribute a few Ã,£ in donations to help redress the balance.

I got a catchy number though so thats good! Ill hand it out to everyone and I have it going to my ring group so it will get most use inbound.

lol thats my sorta idea too. When I was working from home a few weekends ago, I had the works telephones diverted through to my voipuser account number, means I had about 3 hours of calls all adding to my ratio lol. So tiz fair cop.

Also not a bad deal providing you add a few bob to the kitty when you run out of minutes Kinda like "pay as you go" like Skypein and skypeout, but its actually VOIP and not just "voice chat".

Just out of curiosity BX, do you know of any cheap voip phones going? Ideally standalone no frills voip phones I can plug into a hub or switch and just use for phone calls? Softphones are alright, but putting on a headset to make a phonecall is a right arse if its ringing and your across the room.

Searching for SIP phones on EBay results in a shedload of crap skype usb handsets.

Just looking for a decent cheap supplier of some Grandstream Budget handsets, or some other budget handsets.

I use Cisco 7960s myself hanging off the PBX that I converted to SIP myself - you can use them standalone as far as I know!

I support our companys asterisk servers. One has E1 (ISDN) connection and the other POTS connections. Both work great. Ive been able to easily write a perl script for an IVR that queries a one of our databases to get information for customers.

If you want something thats infinitly extendable then asterisk rocks.

When move to my own house (which Im hoping will be by Xmas) Ill be installing an asterisk server connected to my telephone line and various SIP providers. The plan is to route calls to get the cheapest rate depending on time of day and what/where Im calling.

I already have a set of 4 DECT phones that Ill be able to plug into the POTS card to save me having to buy a load of SIP phones.

Ive yet to try some of the pre-packaged asterisk thing such as FreePBX but Im quite happy editing the config files by hand.

cornet, which POTS card do you use (or are you planning on using) for your home system ?

Just set up a POTS system in Australia which uses a voicetronix openpci. However I plan to use the digium card for my own one, as its cheaper and easier to get hold of in the uk.

The Digium uses the zaptel driver and the openpci uses a modified zaptel driver.
