Audio recording on PC

Obviously if I was a Mac user id be using Garage Band, but as im not, what is the best PC alternative.

I need to reocord audio, (mainly speech with some low rent music stuff) and edit it, it just needs to do the basics well and not cost too much.

Also need a microphone

Any recommendations?

i dont know where you would get it tho.

you could always resort to using a cheapo headset an ramp the gain :/

eeek go with a headset. the mic was expensive an you dont know if that convertor will work with audacity :/

i use my mic through a pa an then into my mac.
