Title: Backups
Post by: Pete on September 26, 2006, 22:28:47 PM
Ive got a folder containing about 13mb in 150ish files I wanna backup every single day. I could use windows backup but Id prefer to keep them as normal files and not a *.bkf or whatever, and I want it all automated so I dont have to bother with it.

Any ideas on a proggy? Free if pos. :)

Create a batch file and have it run through scheduler. Or buy Ghost/Acronis TruImage.

Cheers

Useful bit of batch code that creates a directory with the current date and stores files in it:

for /F "tokens=1-4 delims=/ " %%i in (date /t) do (
set Day=%%i
set Month=%%j
set Year =%%k
set NDate=%%k%%j%%i
}

mkdir c:\backups\temp  (or whatever)
**copy backup files into temp**
ren c:\backups\temp c:\backups\%NDate%

Microsoft Synctoy if youre running under XP, itll keep 2 folders synced nice and simple. It can be scheduled too.

Cheers guys, synctoy wants .net installed, but it already is.

I found an interesting proggy called gmail-sync (http://weblogs.asp.net/nleghari/articles/gmailbackup.aspx) - I couldnt get it working but Ill keep an eye out for a future version.

I just got Cobian Backup and it looks ok.
