Title: Be* Price Cut
Post by: Kunal on October 12, 2007, 12:37:14 PM
QuoteDear member,

We at Be are always searching for ways to fulfil our mission of offering the best
broadband, for the best price. Since successfully launching Be Value, weve been
reviewing our pricing and your feedback and we are happy to announce significant
changes: Be unlimited is now just £18 per month and Be pro is reduced to £22 per
month.  In addition, there will no longer be an additional charge for a static IP
with Be Unlimited.

These prices will be available to all new Be members also, so there is no better
time to recommend Be broadband to your friends

Be unlimited £18 per month

Be unlimited is one of the fastest broadband products available in the UK. Before
today the price was £24 per month for the up to 24 Mbps downstream and up to 1.3
upstream speeds, but we have now reduced it to £18 per month. Be unlimited is also a
completely uncapped service so members can surf as much as they like and members
also have the option of either dynamic or static IP address at no extra cost.

Be pro £22 per month

Be pro has come down in price from £40 a month to just £22. Designed for SMEs and
power users, Be pro offers the fastest upstream and downstream speeds in the UK.
Using Upload Plus Be pro members have access to up to 2.5 meg upstream using the
Annex M as standard.

Reduction in the Express Cancellation Charge

In line with these price changes we have reduced the cost of an Express Cancellation
for Be unlimited and Be pro members to £40.

When will these prices come into effect?

All new members will be able to buy Be unlimited and Be pro for the new prices from
today.

All existing members will see the new pricing on their December invoice with a
refund to cover the period from 10th October to 30th November.

Members can upgrade to Be unlimited or Be pro at no cost. To upgrade, login to your
member centre and open a ticket requesting your upgrade.

NB: The www.bethere.co.uk  website will be updated from
tomorrow with the new price changes

Ill be upgrading to Be Pro then! :) Roll on 2.5Mbit upload and dedicated IP.

I was thinking the same thing !!

tho iirc for the 2.5meg upload you need something extra... and you lose some of youre download speed ?

Not sure about needing something extra... apparently they switch you to Annex M?

Since Ive been on fastpath I dont mind loosing a bit of download speed. Im currently on 22.9Mbit and Im downloading off USENET/newsgroups at 2.2Mb/sec, so I doubt Ill notice the drop.

I wish theyd sort out a static IP option for the Be Value package. The most I sync at is 6-7meg on a very good day but Im stuck paying for Be Unlimited because I need the static IP. Admittedly with the price drops its not that much of a difference any more but I still feel like Im being cheated out of some cash.

Crikey thats a good price, Im with Zen on the 2mb 100GB package, still paying £35 a month!

Very tempting offer, this.

Ive just submitted my ticket to Pro, its not the speed im bothered about, its the inevitable FUP that will come along once the network gets clogged up.  The Pro users are likely to be less effected.

No 2 years ago when I moved house, Freeserve totally bungled the house/adsl move thingy and left me with no ADSL for 58 days, so I went with Zen as they had the best reviews at that time :)

Love their service as well - raised a ticket at 1pm, and they confirmed at 5pm that theyd switched my account, and that itd be active a couple of hours after that.

Be do have good customer service, occasionally the tickets take a while to be answered but I think thats more due to the massive subscriber numbers they are getting at the moment. When I sent in a ticket asking to be upgraded from dynamic to static IP they called me back half an hour later and talked me through setting up the Bebox, and they are generally polite and chatty on the phone.

Cant fing get the net from them :( Supposdly to far from the Exchange, while my next door neighbour (on the same mast) on ADSLMax gets 2.5meg down and 500kb up. Tempted to go with sky like him, but the download limits suck!

2.5mb must be at the extreme range of ADSLMax considering its up to 8mbit

*chuckle*

I was getting annoyed because my sync speed had dropped off (was down at 12Mb).  Neighbour just weedkillered the Telephone pole, and my speed jumped by 2.3Mb.  Then Swapped the router out for one I had in the cupboard as well because the BeBox is junk, and my sync speed shot up even further.  Im now back at 19.5Mb.

i can confirm that the Linksys WAG-54GS works perfectly with Be* without having to be flashed with a 3rd party firmware.  Not a router im exactly happy with, but its better than the BeBox, and I had forgotten I even had it!

Does anyone get disconnects and re-syncs come early evening time? Its getting annoying now, between 6:00 and 7:00 every evening (occasionally a little earlier at weekends) Ill get a re-sync and my speed will be chopped in half (usually more) and my pings will skyrocket. Itll stay like this until I re-sync the next day, Im thinking they are having a serious case of network congestion at some exchanges.

not sure about that... mines spot on...

but I did have an email the other day about work theyd be doing warning that i could be disconnected for a short time... and if I had any further problems to email them!

I keep Phoning Virgin up and mentioning Be24, they remind me its ADSL2 and the speeds are not 24mb, unless you are very close to the exchange.

Im on the 20MB for this now.

Were just writing to let you know that were now ready to take a payment of £18.00 for your Virgin Media services. Itll be taken on or around 07/11/2007.

very happy, my downloads seem OK as well.

youre on verigin at 20meg ADSL1 ?
can you get 20meg along ADSL1 ?
isnt ADSL2 better over distance then ADSL1 ?
/me thinks theyre pulling your plonker !

EDIT:

Quote from: the internet saysThe 8000/384 speed is the theoretical maximum ADSL1 speed. Actual speed will depend on many factors that cannot be determined without connection

so ~8meg is the top whack for ADSL1 ?

to be fair, i had nothign but problems with Virgin after they started their "Restructuring".  Telewest where ace, Virgin seem to be unable to find their arse with both hands.  "Im sorry, you want fast broadband AND you want to use it?!  Im sorry sir, we dont allow that!"

Virgin use cable, formerly NTL, because its cable they can get more stable speeds, look at my signature thats over 19mb.

Im very tempted to go with Be* aswell but sadly i cant get it in my area yet as ADSL2 is non-existant where i live :( The highest speed i can get here is 6MB with my Orange connection. The day Be* becomes avaliable where i live (if i still live there then) thats when il migrate to them! :D at this rate though it looks like it will be like another 2 years yet before ADSL2 becomes avaliable where i live!

Ive just requested a MAC code from Pipex.  Ive been with them since I got ADSL but the speeds have been terrible at peak times especially at the weekend.

Im going to go with be* pro but I suspect I wont be able to get the upload plus as I live 2.11km from the exchange and their website says less than 2km.

It seems Pipex are at least good at one thing... supplying MAC codes reasonably quickly.  :)
