Im loving the crisp and brilliant mix on this. The Beatles  have never sounded so good. On the other hand, its just the big hits, and I cant forget that its music intended as a soundtrack for a circus.

I wonder why properly mixed CDs of the Beatles have never been available? I know people that keep turntables around just because the digital versions of the album are so bad.

IIRC it took something like two years to get that together and process it. It was a work of lurve ;)

You can thank George Martin for that :) Theres a small article about him / interview with him in this months Q Magazine

In other news, the sky is green, and Iraqis are welcoming Americans with flowers and chocolate.

Back to your Wagner now...

Hmmm, despite my best efforts to try and like the beatles i can honestly say i despise their music*... some kids my age love them, but it think thats down to the retro image and liking the beatles, because its cool to like the beatles, but to me its painful at best... and theyre from liverpool. double whamey.

*each to their own though.

TBH, If I were to advise somebody on which 60s britpop to purchase, Id recommend either a Kinks box set, or their first 3-5 albums which can be had for the same price.

I enjoyed "Love" for the mix, but after hearing the same songs so many  times, itll likely never get played again. Its like "Oh thats great production, and interesting and Im over it."

44 Kinky tracks for Ã,£6.49, FTW!

Ive been listening to some of their rarer covers, and they have an unashamed proto-punk blues rock rawness, which contrasts with the self aware artiness of the Beatles. Way underappreciated.

Or it might be because theyre one of the defining artists of probably the last 100 years or more?

For me personally I like to go back to source with the music I like today and find out about their influences too, and if you take todays music and the beatles as a influence, thats a lot of listening you need to do. Each to their own though.

And entirely with Max too, Kinks massively underrated, and there wouldnt be the proto-punk bluesy revival going on in the British album chart as there currently is.
