Hi Everyone,

Just recieved my new Creative X-Fi Music sound card today and iv just fitted it in the motherboard, power up the computer then i get as far as the NVidia graphics boot then a blank screen, then the computer restarts itself and it just keeps doing this over and over untill i turn it off again and it wont even get as far as the proper boot screen. I know its somehow the sound card as iv just removed it out of the computer again and then turned the it back on and the computer will boot fine. I hope the problem is nothing serious and i hope it can be fixed easily! any surgestions guys?

Thanks - Liam

try a different PCI slot

try removing any other non-essential hardware (network cards, TV tuners, etc)

try removing one of your gfx cards (if you still have the two from your sig)

Beaker

if that Jeantech PSU listed in your sig is the one you are using, then i would suggest the system is at the limit of what it can actually run.

I dont think its an actual problem with the PCI slots, also before i fitted the X-Fi card i was using a Audigy 4, but would the X-Fi really make much difference with the power usage etc?

No, it wouldnt..

Have you tried different slots?  Can you try it in another PC?

This is another problem, with a sound card in the machine there are no spare avaliable PCI slots because of the SLI Graphics cards LOL! im going to try the card in my mums machine over the weekend and see if there is any sucess in the card working. Also i think i might know the problem in a way!!  - apparently NForce 4 boards and X-Fi cards have lots of compatibility problems with them!

that would probably be because Windows is controlling your IRQs.  IIRC you have to mess with the HAL to get it working correctly.  Last time i ran up against IRQ problems was building my present PC.  I just formatted it again and started from scratch will all the hardware installed rather than the initial install that was lacking the Graphics and extra RAID card.
