But how can windows be controlling it if the computer wont even get through to the BIOS properly?

LiAM

Liam

Right this morning iv managed to test the card in my mums PC before i set off for work (mums machine is some P4 branded one, turned it on with the card and it boots fine and then windows detects it fine with no problems. So at least now i know the card isnt faulty so its definately an issue with the motherboard... any surgestions how i could fix this issue? as stated in my sig my motherboard is still the Gigabyte K8N-Pro SLI (nForce 4 chipset)

Thanks - LiAM

I have looked into that but i noticed in CPU-Z, it says my latest BIOS that i have got installed is F6, though in the actual BIOS itself it claims that F9 (02-10-06) is already installed (latest version) i was going to update the BIOS last night but im not really sure which BIOS is really installed??

LiAM

Beaker

have you got your BIOS set to "Plus and Play Aware OS"?
If it is then swap it to "no", Thatll mean the BISO works out the IRQs.  If it is set to no then flip it to yes.  I hate the way these things go sometimes.

hhmmm im not sure though i will have a look at that over the weekend

Well i looked into my BIOS setting and under PnP/PCI configurations i found 2 settings called PCI 1 & PCI 2. I think this must be the IRQ part and both of them are set to Auto, if i change either of them the options are like 1,2,3,4,5 etc. so what do i change them to??

Thanks - Liam

Quote from: LiamI dont think its an actual problem with the PCI slots, also before i fitted the X-Fi card i was using a Audigy 4, but would the X-Fi really make much difference with the power usage etc?

LiAM

No, it wouldnt..

Have you tried different slots?  Can you try it in another PC?

This is another problem, with a sound card in the machine there are no spare avaliable PCI slots because of the SLI Graphics cards LOL! im going to try the card in my mums machine over the weekend and see if there is any sucess in the card working. Also i think i might know the problem in a way!!  - apparently NForce 4 boards and X-Fi cards have lots of compatibility problems with them!

LiAM

NForce 4 and X-FI here, no issues.  Try a re-install as previously suggested.
