Title: Broken M/B Pin
Post by: earthdwarf on August 13, 2008, 23:28:16 PM
Hi everybody,i need a program that will tell me that the cpu and m/b are talking to one another correctly?
m/b is Asus maximus formula, cpu is q6600 ok to 3ghz, temps about 54deg,the puter seems to work ok,have used sandra, everest, and
pctools all appear to check out ok, but dont really know what to look for? Has anyone experienced a broken pin? what faults did you have?

If it still works, dont worry about it.

Hello, if you have a broken pin normally it should not work.

However if your in an operating system working away then this is fine.

if the pin mattered then 99.999% it just wouldnt work at all, maybe even worse.

so if you have a broken pin and youre in windows, youre a lucky person and youve almost certainly found a pin which does nothing.

Thanks for the replies folks, with the new type of pins on m/b instead of cpu,
I think that the broken pin must be just touching the bottom of the cpu and therefore not effecting it very much?
But,? do the pins have to touch the cpu and the bottom of the m/b ?

The pin would have to touch both contacts.

Do note that modern CPUs have multiple grounds (connections to the negative terminal on the motherboard) and if you lose one of these then it may not matter much, but overclocking performance may suffer.

If you get to windows, count yourself lucky and carry on!

Yeah, count the pins to locate the position and email a diagram to the manufacturer. A friend of mine did this a while back and they confirmed that it was a spare ground.
