Title: Calling anyone with a big (22"+) monitor...
Post by: funkychicken9000 on April 04, 2007, 11:20:33 AM
Whats it like for games?  Ive got one on the way but Im slightly worried that due to my slightly-aged 6800GT Im not going to be able to run much at full res (1920 x 1200).  Is running games at something non-native an issue visually?

It doesnt look as nice if you dont play in native, not had much experience though as all games Ive played recently support my monitors native res.

Tis worth getting a decent card to compliment a nice monitor.

I play at 1920*1200 and occasionally 1600*1200 and they both look ok.  Lower than that you can really see it.

Id rather play at high res and have the antialiasing etc turned off until you upgrade your graphics card.  My old Ati 9800 Pro and x800xt were ok at those resolutions so if your card is in that region (which I think it is) then you should be ok for now.

I did upgrade my graphics card but they were serviceable at least in games like World of Warcraft.

I use an XFX 7800GTX 256MB card to play all my games at 1920x1200 on my 2405FPW. Pretty much most games work maxed out. (relatively speaking - can anyone really notice the difference with 8x and 16x FSAA for example)

Ive owned large Monitors for years.. You get used to it really quickly & sigh when you go to a smaller screen :-D

I got my PC, Xbox & Wii hooked up to my Projctor.
77" Screen & my Lazyboy is about 8ft-10ft away at Max

Well, Im not planning to upgrade my PC for a year.  So Ill have to cope without AA until then :D

On the plus side, Ive just got a buyer for my spare monitor... 2407FPW for me then

Ive got one of the 20.1" WS Dells (ok not 22"+) but I run it a 6800GT and a P4 3Ghz and it struggles to run a lot of things at 1680x1050, but instead of running it at a lower res and having it look awful, I can set the monitor to run it at a 1:1 res.  So 1024x768 shows as 1024x768 it doesnt stretch it at all, yes you end up with it not using your full screen but it lets you actually run games.

A better PC wouldnt have a problem but with it but a 6800GT will do, not sure if other monitors do the same thing, if they do Id use it, if not buy a Dell ;)

My monitor is awesome for the games I play. Chess. Beautifully rendered 2d sprites.

On the very rare occasions Ive ran a game not in native res on my 20" WS Dell Ive not noticed any horrible image stretching as such, still looks great.

Dont really have any issues now though with SLi 7900GTX :D

Holy sh*t this thing is clucking massive.  And unbelievably sharp.  And no dead pixels that Ive found (although I havent checked all 2,304,000 of them yet).  I cant wait to try a DVD

Screw DVD, download some 1080p content mate. If you havent got a fast connection, just go for one of the 1080p Apple trailers, usually 100-200mb.

Stunning is all Ill say.

Recently watched Batman Begins in 1080p on the Dell and I sat 2" from the screen for parts of it soaking in the level of detail.

Problem is, now I want 46" 1080p screen :P

I didnt

And jebus, youre not wrong about 1080p.  I stuck in a dvd to test the monitor and was like "ffs, is this a screener?!"  The resolution on this monitor makes me want to mess my pants.

Ha, 1080p trailers make my pc crawl.  3200+ isnt good enough then :(

Still.  Im resolute that I wont upgrade my computer until next year.  Maybe.

The Problem with proper HD stuff are the codecs.
Try & get CoreAVC Codec. Its the Best MP4 HDTV Codec available.

Hmmm, doesnt seem to be having an effect.  Any way of telling if I installed it right?  Does it work with quicktime or do I need another program?
