...is up at the usual sources, the pilot episode that is.
I have to say Im very impressed. Its Battlestar Galactica, but not as we know it. Im actually hesitant to draw comparisons between the two shows because pace and emphasis of the show seems very different. To generalise Id say if you liked Galactica because of the gunfights and space battles then this isnt for you. If, however, you liked Galactica because of the evolving narrative and character development then Ive a feeling this may be a show youll enjoy. There are plenty of BSGisms dotted around, everything from expletives to clothing to technology to neat little sheets of paper with the corners cut off. Those with keen ears will also hear Bear McCreary throwing in one of the more emotive leitmotifs from Galactica. Even from just viewing the pilot its also obvious that it will tackle similar issues to BSG throughout the course of the show. That said I can only reiterate that even though a fair bit remains the same this is in no way, shape or form Battlestar Galactica and is all the better for not being a clone.
Given how much BSG developed and grew compared to the pilot mini-series I have high hopes for this one, they crammed in an awful lot of scene setting and character introductions into a small space of time without it seeming too cluttered and they are really tackling the birth of the cylons in an inventive and intriguing way. I cant wait for the show to start airing properly, Im in dire need of a well written show to fill the gap now both Battlestar Galactica and The Sarah Connor Chronicles have finished.
Is it still ridiculous in how the characters can do what they want without any repercussions ?

Its too early to tell really since theres only been one episode and its also not in the same setting. It does look as though theyve taken everything theyve learned in making BSG and polished things for Caprica so you never know.
Much more adult than BSG I thought :)
I loved BSG but thought it was ridiculous how you could go from insulting the admiral to becoming a captain to getting demoted, to stealing a craft and then getting promoted again, etc, etc.

Last people of the colonies, Only ones left. Need people to do those roles so it highlights the struggle for being lawful and obeying command to breaking those rules and being punished to the need for those people in those roles or greater.
No it was stupid how one could go from President to a traitor to President to CAP.
Blah blah.
But other than that it was great.

I think BSG was the greatest TV show in modern history but Id still agree with this wholeheartedly. They did try to tackle it on a few occasions (I seem to recall Romo Lampkin making comments about how the fleet will never be commanded by anyone not named Adama and Tom Zarek pointing out the flaws in constantly issuing fleet wide pardons) but it was never property portrayed as coming back to bite them in the arse. In one moment Roslin would be kicking people out of the air lock left right and centre and then shed be issuing pardons to people who have committed truly heinous crimes.
