Yes, Ive bought a few. It cuts out the internet rules and restrictions.

TBH I have never paid for a music file from companies like Apple, their restrictions on use are far too harsh.

In resent research they found that people who download a lot of music also are the ones that buy music most.

Ive bought more vinyl than CDs in the past few years, though downloads have exeeded both. Agreed, never from Apple. Bastwards with all the security nonsense. Its so damn super easy to get perfect illegal copies of albums from the net, that it blows my mind that Apple even bothers with all their mumbo.

Last 3 years Ive probably bought about 250 CDs.  I dont like downloads due to their inherent poor sound quality(assuming lossy compression has been employed) and I like to have the physical medium to place my hand on, I like the inlays and the pictures, with the notes and who guested and whatever.  cause Im really geeky and like to read all that :)  CDs are so cheap on Ebay anyway!

Got almost 500 now including DVD-Audio(About 20) and SACD(About 10).

Im exactly the same, although not in the quantities you have. If I like an artist I will support them and buy their CDs, or if I really love them , the vinyls too.

Id be interested to know which DVD-As and SACDs you have as I intend to add more to my current collection of one  Probably will buy the Fleetwood Mac DVDs next. Which in general do you think provides better sound quality, the DVDs or SACDs?

Same with films too really. I love all the extras you get on DVDs.

Its hard to say which sounds better out of SACD and DVD-A, not a single album out there on both formats.  When it comes to the multi channel its down to the production/mix.  To be honest I havent noticed much of a difference between CDs and SACDs for stereo stuff(I have a few SACD Rolling Stones albums).  But when it comes to multichannel, I notice massive differences, mainly due to the fact on some of them one speaker may be dedicated to just one or two instruments and therefore the clarity is just untouchable.  Still only got the same Logitech Z680s, but got a Pioneer DV656A DVD-A/SACD player now.  Speakers arent great for stereo stuff, but with the right multichannel mix can sound way better than any stereo speaker set armed with a standard CD.

DVD-A albums. All Multichannel, unless theyre vinyl rips.  All the vinyl rips have been done by a guy with mint vinyls and thousands of pounds of record player and recording equipment.  All 24bit/96kHz unless stated.

George Benson - Breezin, guitar jazz, multichannel.  Sounds amazing, only ever heard MP3s previously.

George Benson - White Rabbit, this is an unofficial Vinyl rip.

Chicago - Chicago, jazz/rock fusion, multi channel.  Sounds great, but never heard the CD.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, multichannel, sounds amazing, much better than the CD.

The Eagles - Hotel California.  Multichannel, one of my faves this, excellent mix, the title track, one guitar coming out of each speaker in many parts.  Way way better than the CD.

Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won. Multichannel.  Disappointing, hardly anything has been done to make it sound good on multichannel. Only recorded at 48kHz.  If you have the CD dont bother with this.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 1, unofficial vinyl rip.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 3, unofficial vinyl rip.

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy, unofficial vinyl rip.

Billy Cobham - Spectrum, jazz/rock fusion.  Friggin awesome album, way better than the CD, excellent multichannel mix.

Frank Zappa - Quaudiophiliac, multichannel.  Only on DVD-A, sounds awesome throughout.  Its a collection of Zappas own experimental multichannel recordings from times before multichannel music was even dreamed of in the public.  Chungas Basement is one fantastic multichannel track!

Frank Zappa - Halloween.  Only on DVD-A, excellent multichannel mix, but not as impressive as Quaudiopiliac.

Frank Zappa - Were Only In It For The Money - Unofficial Vinyl Rip.

REM - Automatic For The People.  Bought this for the sake of it, not a big REM fan.  Multichannel mix is poor, nothing over the CD, only 48kHz too.  Dont bother if you have the CD.

Queen - A Night At The Opera.  You heard this one Nige, but its so much better o na proper DVD-A player instead of a PC with a SB Audigy 2! One of the better ones, buy it just for Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Doors - LA Woman.  This is a fantastic multichannel mix, awesome clarity throughout, you feel like you were in the downstairs smoky bar room watching them play listening to this!

Carole King - Tapestry, Unofficial Vinyl Rip

Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Unoffical Vinyl Rip

Ry Cooder - Paris Texas, unoffical vinyl rip.  I love this album so much, the simplicity and clarity of his slide guitar blues is mind blowing, I just turn out the lights and chill to this.

Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow, unoffical vinyl rip

The Meters - Look-Ka Py Py, unofficla vinyl rip, unbelieveble New Orleans 70s funk :D

Creative Audigy 2 DVD-A sampler.  Some great acoustic and jazz stuff on this :)

SACD Albums

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow, I have to say this is my favourite multichannel album.  Its pure jazz/rock fusion, and at its best.  Awesome guitar playing, and it works so well as often the solos are just coming out of the rear speakers, clarity is immense.  A million miles better than the CD.  Beware, there are stereo SACDs of this album too, I have both versions.  You must get the multichannel one.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, awesome multichannel mix for a legendry album.  A must buy if you like this album.

Oasis - (Whats The Story) Morning Glory.  Clarity on multichannel mix is great, BUT, the guy who did the multichannel mix f**ked it up quite frankly, all the songs sound different, there are some horrendous Liam vocal doubles and echos littering some songs, the bass has been lost on Hey Now, Paul Wellers guitar solo has almost gone on Champagne Supernova, Shes Electrics piano is higher in the mix and sounds bad.  The bass is higher in the mix for Morning Glory, not sure if its a bad thing.  Maybe its a case that I knew the album so well and so when I heard this I just noticed everything and I wasnt expecting it.  I suppose the saving grace is that Cast No Shadow sounds absolutely amazing, the clarity of the guitar strumming is orgasmic.....  Ok, not quite ,but its damn good.  I suppose Ive kinda got used to this multichannel mix now, but I do find myself playing with the audio controls for every track, something I dont have to do for other multichannel albums.

Rolling Stones - Aftermath.  Stereo. Never heard the CD.

Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed. Stereo, cant tell much difference between the SACD and the CD.  Case of my speakers not being up to it.

Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet.  Same as Let It Bleed.

So, thats 22 and 6.

I was at the metrocentre last night and ended up buying 5 CDs :S

I go through phases of buying CDs I think Ive got about 100 or so.  I keep on meaning to  use Collectorz.coms Music collector to catalogue what Ive got.  All my DVDs are on DVD Profiler and my books are in Collectorz.coms Book Collector so I might as well do my music eventually.

I have a Ã,£5 buying rule, in that I will never spend more than Ã,£5 for an album.  If a new one comes out then I will just download it until I can get it for a fiver or under.  Regularly look in sales and online for good bargains ... I never mind buying them as there is something nice about owning an original.  Plus back in the day I used to spend an absolute fortune on albums and found that I would be buying an album for one track or just for a listen.

I still prefer CDs over downloads anyday for 2 main reasons.  A bookcase of CDs is more impressive than the hard drive of MP3s, they are a lot safer and also you can sell them.

Secondly, I refuse to have the format and bitrate/quality of that file dictated by a company.

Last 2 albums I bought iirc was Muse - Black Holes & Revelations and Placebo - Meds.  So I dont buy albums that often.  If I see some old ones that I need to complete a collection on sale, then sure Ill buy them.  3 for Ã,£20 and all that.
