Title: Changing the antenna on a Netgear DG834g
Post by: Cheule on December 16, 2007, 22:33:16 PM
Hi peeps, recently Ive had cause to investigate a problem some nights where my wireless signal drops from good, to poor. Ive thought about getting one of those five quid antennas off ebay and screwing that in the back to see what happens.

Anyone else done this? Any improvements?

Also the only other problem is that all the antennas are black, whereas the DG834G v3 is ipod white.

I got one for I think £12 a while back, it wasnt put onto the router, but I put it onto my computer, but didnt solve the issue.

I think the issue was more a channel problem as there were a few wireless networks on the same channel, maybe some one turns their wireless router on at night?

Change your channel on your wireless set-up first and then get a bigger antenna.

Tried changing the channel - no change. There are two BT homehubs nearby-ish, I get about 35% off one and 50% off another. Mine comes in around 65% usually, but sometimes drops to 25%.

Could try getting a new antenna I suppose. I wouldnt have any other suggestions, although it could be some sort of interference (that starts at the same time each night) that could be solved with a new aerial.

No I wouldnt just buy it just for no reason, it can interfere with gaming when my signal drops to poor, loading web pages freeze, and other annoying time consuming crap. :)
