Anyone here know a lot about coffee machines?

Im after a really good fully automated one, any suggestions???

Coffee machines are pretty much similar. It depends on what you want out of it rather than how good the coffee you get out is, for quality the ground coffee you use is more important than the machine IMO. Most of the advertised ones have a lower mess factor but cost more in operation so bear this in mind.

I got a multifunction one, does filter, has a steam arm for cappuccino and a seperate high pressure espresso set up in one unit. Was a few years back from Safeway. Think they wernt moving them fast enough so they decided to sell them off cheap for £25.

Kopi Luwak expensive but really good stuff

if you only want normal style coffee a cafetière/French press is the best bet easy to clean and easy to make very good coffee, far far better than most percolators, and no messy filters, just clean plunger to keep the coffee oil from building up

if your wanting just Caffelatte, cappuccino etc then Gaggia are good, but the person making the coffee is the biggest factor.

If you want a big, expensive, automated machine then you cant go wrong with a Gaggia.

normal coffee, go for the plunger.

 

I got a fancy steam one thats a pita to clean so it never gets used.

Ill more than likely go down the Gaggia route.

Its more convenience in the mornings than anything else...

In my experience of these things theyre not actually convenient - theyre a pain in the ass overall.

Agree with suggestions that a cafetiere is about the most sensible option.

for the sake of less than £5 try a plunger
or buy a cheap coffee maching & if you find you can be bothered, then upgrade.

I find that a cheap filter or espresso machine can be set up at night and all you have to do is operate the on switch. Even better, put a filter machine on a time switch and it will be ready when you get up.

Coffee percolators have protection circuits built in. They quite often get left on all day without any problems. Using one on a time switch is about as dangerous as leaving a sky box or video recorder plugged in.

Hmm im not sure to be honest...

I was hoping for something that would freshly grind the beans for me and basically do everything....
