Hi everyone,
I have just purchased this tv: http://www.daewoo-electronics.co.uk/prod_images/pop-up238.htm

PC (RGB) 15PIN D-SUB- is the only relevant thing i can find for connecting the tv to my pc.

My computer doesnt have a special video card, there are few spaces for what looks like composite cables, however i think the best hope is a space for a cable which i dont know the name of... It is just below where i plug my standard monitor into and it looks exactly the same as where i would plug my pc monitor into it, however instead of having no "pricks" there are some, there are 9 pins altogether, 5 on one row and 4 underneath. Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Greg

The 9-pin connector you speak of is most likely the serial port, as most monitors have their D-sub leads fused into the monitor at the monitor end youll need to buy a 15-pin D-sub to D-sub cable.

Then unplug your monitor from your graphics card and use the new lead to your new telly and card.

Yeap; one of these:

I hate it when monitors come with *built in* cables.

Hi, Thanks for the responses, the other thing i didnt mention was that i would like my both screens to work at the same time (like some sort of splitter like you cna get for headphones). Also, i went to that website recommended for me, and i dont quite understand what is needed or why.
Thanks again,
Greg

you cant. is the short answer.

a second graphics card or a new graphics card with two dsub connections or 1 dsub and 1 dvi connection with an adapter to turn the dvi to a dsub connection or a matrox 2 head in one external box will allow you to do it... is the long answer.

Hi, I realise this post was closed a while ago but the plot has thickened! Firstly, I am now able to use the hdmi slot on the tv and secondly a friend said i could buy a "splitter" here is a lnik for both.

The only problem is, i have absolutely no idea if i am using "dvi-d" whilst this is a rubbish problem to have, if you dont know then you have to ask!
Thanks,
Greg

Only way youll know is looking at what your monitor is plugged into at the back of your computer, and what other socket you have free.

greg123

Hi everyone,
I have taken some pictures of the back of my computer...
Just so everyone who can help knows what is happening; i want to connect a tv to my pc. The tv has hdmi and the computer has 2 ports which seem relevant, but im not sure what they are (i have provided pictures) Please note, i would like my current monitor connected at the same time as the new tv. The following links were given to me as suggestions but im not sure if they are right.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help,
Greg

(i am having trouble attaching images, so i will send this and the images will follow)

greg123

The attachment procedure is not working, so i will describe the two ports!

Port one:

9 pins
pattern:
.....
....

The port has "spikes" (do you undersatnd what i mean by that!)

PORT 2:

15 pins
No spikes
pattern as such:
.....
 .....
.....

Thanks a lot for your help,
Greg

Which port is your monitor currently plugged in on?

Do you have a port like so on the back of your computer

greg123

Hi, it is currently plugged into the 15pin one with no "spikes". I do not have anything like that picture. Does this mean that i cant do what i wanted with the computer and tv?
Thanks,
Greg

Yup pretty much, without upgrading your graphics card that is.

The cable you link to is a DVI (the socket above) to HDMI cable. You need a DVI socket on your computer in order to plug it in.

greg123

How much will a half decent graphics card with dvi cost? I dont really use the computer for gaming, although i do intend to use it for vista eventually which requires 256mb memory... What to do?
Thanks,
Greg

M3ta7h3ad

er... what now.

Vista min reqs are...

An 800 MHz processor
512 MB of RAM
A 20 GB hard drive with 15 GB of free space

For aero you may need a 256mb graphics card though... either way Id probably pay about Ã,£50ish for one.

greg123

Ok, are there any you recommend? Also, surely if i put it in the ports wont fit the spaces on the back of my computer. Sorry if thats a rubbish question but they need to be asked!
Thanks,
Greg
