When are Quads due out (really) and will duos drop by much? I dont mind the odd Ã,£20 here and there but dont want them to halve otherwise Ill wait. Also will by DDR work or do I need DDR Noodle Widget 3 ?

Kunal

I doubt that youll see a drop in price, it doesnt appear Intel (or AMD) will be positioning quad core like that... also what are you planning on using the system for? Unless your doing graphics, AV editing etc you wont see much of an improvement over dual core. Coding for two cores is one thing... coding for more (for games in particular) is a whole different kettle of fish from what Ive read.

Sam

I dont want quad core, but if the price of dual core will drop then I would wait for that.

Pete

Last I heard theyre due out some time this month.

The highend "extreme" duos are gonna drop a fair bit I think, Id hold out for a few weeks if it was me.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Deaths Head

The Quad Core processors are only going to be top of the line high cost parts, they shouldnt affect the dual core proces much imo.

yup - unless youre looking for an absolute top end core2 duo you wont see much of a price drop in the range.  The quads arent supposed to fit into the consumer line of chips really.

If you wait with buying the duo youll be saving in the tens of pounds but nothing major.

Release date - still not seen any dates but itll only be a couple of weeks now.

Great Ill get one for Christmas then. Will any 775 shuttle work with them ?

I doubt it, youll need to check for specific compatability. Not all 775 boards/chipsets are compatible with Core 2 Duos (early 975s anyone?), and the Quad is less likely as it needs beefed up VRMs.

looking at prices of render stations if you buy dual quad core chips you would be saving years in rendering times. its crazy.

Serious

Having seen a couple of reviews the quads offer little or nothing so far to gamers. Software that has not been written for multicores will probably not benefit and some may not run at all.

Basic design is a pair of duos welded together.

Going on this months anouncements and what I will be getting hold of is there will be afordable quads and replacing some of the option duos, I am reinstalling my main pc and I will put up the links I had bookmarked.
The quad core options will supprise people and is more of a replace/coinsidence with the duo rather then flat replacement or higher options to reduce prices Initial ones are to be top end but January more afordable options will come about.
