Not as bad as you might think. Denzil playing Denzil, as he always does. Silly time travelesque premise but quite enjoyable and a fast moving movie (which is always a plus). Nice supporting role by a fat Val Kilmer.

6/10.

translation = -1/10

Lol.

3 movies of people walking, walkin to a f**kin volcano
even the trees walked in those movies

LOTR - bored the arse off me. A childhood nostalgic wankfest for people who remember "my parents reading it to me at night when I was a kid"... they read your school report too and I wouldnt want a movie made of that ffs.

Just rubbish, but kudos to Deja Vu tho :D

Obviously you never read the books then, TBH they make the trilogy look like a heroic achievement of the greatest kind possible.

Translation, incredibly dated prose, overfilled with side issues that never go anywhere and intended for reading to kids who arent old enough to read for themselves before going to bed.

Most of the trilogys text ended up thankfully being excluded from the film.

Nope. If I feel cheated at having to watch nine hours of movie I would feel a damn site more violated had I have read for about a year this collection of books. No offence to Tolkein, but the story is no my kind of thing and it just looked and felt like a Dungeons and Dragons players dream made "real".

Books came first, the games like Dungeons and Dragons were based at least in part on Tolkiens work. That of course means if you didnt like D&D then you wouldnt like the films either.

Still got a copy of the Tunnels and Trolls rulebook somewhere :)

Sam

Yes LOTR was utter garbage. The books might be good I dont know Ive never read them, but the films were 9 hours of CGI battles which keep Gamesworkshop fans happy but the film has no substance or story.

Serious

I loved the films cause I understood where they were coming from but I didnt read through the books as a kid and so I cant even get half way through the first one. The books just dont get anywhere near modern ones, if Tolkien were trying to get them published now hed have no chance. As it was they were the first in the field and so did fantastically well.

They are still written for a 5-10 year old though, bit like the harry potter books but in a completely outdated style. They grew up reading the books so most of them liked the films too.

The story is the defence of middle earth, transportation of the ring and its final destruction. You are bound to get some cgi battles, they were done very well.

In the end its a fantasy epic, there has to be swords, sorcery and huge battles!
