Anyone here used a Dell Precision laptop?
Boss wants a new laptop, although he needs something tough/reliable. Is there any difference in the body/construction/build quality between these and the Lattitudes?
Ive read something about them being built using a magnesium alloy, although Im not sure if that applies to the entire range.
Was also looking at the Thinkpad T61, although Im hearing mixed reviews on Lenovos support.
Pansonic Toughbook, I can get pissed off with mine throw it out the window, collect and carry on using.

seconded. They are seriously expensive for the spec you get, (or they used to be), but they are more or less indestructible.
Its almost like a challenge begging to test the toughness...
will it blend?
Seen videos of trucks running over one, the same laptop, thrown out of windows and just generally abused. Booted and ran everytime! I wish I could afford one right now!

Give him an etch a sketch :mutley:
Toughbooks are the thing if you need something nearly indestructable ;)
While a Toughbook would be great I think its out of our price range spec wise.
So if were discounting that, what other options?
Budget of around 1000-1300 max inc VAT.
The head of our outsourced IT support just came in and had a chat about this.
Ruled out the Dell, came down to the T61 or Fujitsu Siemens.
Ended up going for the T61.
Dell VOSTRO 1500. Just bought 4 with true left screen. Very nice. expect like our bosses will be used to listen to the radio online
You can get two for £13,000
The company I used to work for had an HP lappy which survived getting its screen wrapped around an iron girder by the Buncefield fuel depot explosion. The building was totaled, but the HP still booted provided you gave it an external keyboard mouse and monitor.
Alas I dont know what model it was.
