I saw a digital movie for the first time last week. Cineworld at Sheffield have installed digital projectors in screen 20 and by jolly the improvement is simply gobsmacking. I noticed it straight away and I cant tell the difference between red and blue Im that blind.

Its so much sharper, a lot more vibrant, the brightness really hits you. And theres obviously no more of that artifact effect you get at the cinema (the black splodges and splatters and lines and things).

i like the odd flicker from old film, give you a feel that this is a bit different

digital projection is a little too perfect, especially when done with a film shot not in a perfect digital standard.

I will admit that it is much clearer which helps alot considering how useless some projection staff are at sorting out focus and alignment.

Not that i go to the cinema that much, the price keeps on rising when the cinemas change hands. Both cinemas changed hands at the same time suddenly in the centre of cardiff and managed to have a sudden boost in the price of both so there wasnt any competition.

Sounds like the difference between traditional PAL and a HD picture.  Its there in your face. I Havent yet seen a digital projector.  Not to sure when Odeon are supposed to be rolling out across their UK cinemas.

On a related note, I may have to go into the Imax Theatre the next time I am at Millenium Point in Birmingham.  Ive been meaning to see what this 3D image and 42 speakers experiance is like.

Its thoroughly excellent. Its just a shame that they show so much there that no one would want to see. I saw the Lion King on it, which seems like a waste as its a cartoon, but that was pretty good. I can imagine a spectacle such as The Matrix, Jurassic Park and such like would be jaw dropping.

Vue in cardiff were a ripoff last time i ventured near it, dunno about the tuesday deal, but then again it is the night i am busy every week

Tuesday is the same £2.50 deal, think it was £1 for a while.

But yeah largest screen in wales = you cant see all of the action at once, you physically have to move your head to view bits of the screen at a time cause its too frickin big!

I saw either Reloaded or Revolutions at the IMax in Bristol - not 3D but just mahoosive! It wasnt bad but really if a film is good, you kindof forget the medium youre watching it on and the awe of the size didnt last long. Plus, the bits that looked a bit over-CGed at a normal cinema were far too obviously so at the IMax.

Millennium Point is literally over the road from me, yet theres never anything on there Id consider going and seeing.
