Quick question...my old dremel ended up corroding pretty badly on the screw thread the collet attaches to. So badly that in the process of trying to remove the collet it pretty much removed all the thread as well as breaking the unit in the process.
Im just curious whether there is actualyl a recommended maintenance program for these tools? searching for dremel maintenance on tinternet just brings back maintenance projects using dremels. Are you meant to oil the screw bit at the end?
Or was I just sanding/drilling/grinding highly corrosive materials which rusted the bit very quickly. It only lasted about 6 months!

I bit of oil never hurts, if you dont have any sitting around, just use cooking oil, I often use it and it works fine

Agreed, oil is your friend from soon as you buy it :)

But basically dont leave it in a place with extreme temperatures like a garage and make sure its cleaned after heavy use.
The cleaning will make sure you get rid of all the rubbish. If youve got a ton of crap on the metal parts of it spray WD40 on it. That stuff is tops.
Heh, shame, I binned it. Annoyingly the bit that corroded is attached to the big motor segment, which just so happens to be the most expensive bit to replace :(
