Ive been messing around in the bios with ma new PC [see sig] and was wondering if 55 degrees [ish] indicated by the bios is suitable for an o/c? Ive knocked it back to stock now, its running around mid-40s on stock cooler. Ill put windows on it soon, get some decent diagnostics loaded.

Also, any tips to make it run cooler on the stock cooler?

if 55C is the top temp in the bios, and you leave it going a while so thats defenatly that max then thats no problem at all

(left running in the bios the CPU will be going 100% so gives you full load temps, not idle temps)

....tho working ok in the bios doesent mean much.... windows might not run :(

Get a better cooler!

My nephews E8200 runs at 4Ghz at stock volts and sits in Bios at well under 40c, but under full load in windows its gets up into the low 50s .

The temp in Bios is always lower than the temps you will see in windows with the chip is fully load   -)

I might get a better cooler eventually...but Im only planning to go to 3.2gHz

And if the bios is full load, then Ill leave it on 3.2, as theres not much chance Ill have it going at full tilt all the time.

not if you leave it running long enough !

(ignoring the little things like gfx adding to case temp and pushing the cpu temp up!)

that was how i used to test me full load / watercooling temps back in the day ;)

Intel's recent chips have more advanced halt commands than earlier chips, so use a lot less power in Bios or idling in windows ...so produce less heat   -)

doh, damn those intel fiends !

Ill just put the temperature shut off at intels recommended 72 celsius maximum running temp, then if it keeps shutting down I know I need to lower it

Anyone wanna bet at the maximum clock I can get it to post on?
