Hi all,

Ive got two Enermax Liberty PSUs, one is a 500w the other 400w.

Recently the 400w unit has started going pop whenever its switched on (the switch at the back). After it nearly knackered the missus computer, I swapped hers for mine where the problem continued. The other day, it blew in spectacular style, taking the house circuit out with it.

Upon inspection, the 10A fuse in the PSU has virtually exploded. The motherboard on it seems fine, no blackening anywhere, so I cant see what might be causing it.

Is it worth trying to repair or just flogging as-is for spares and repairs?

(Just hoping the 500w unit behaves itself now!)

If the PSU went so spectacularly after having problems for a while, Id think that there must be some underlying cause, and that the fuse blowing was an effect, not the route problem.

Id really think that it was new PSU time.

Two different PSUs, 1st almost went boom, 2nd did go boom. Doesnt sound like the PSU is the problem to me.

Checked to make sure the electrics are all fine?

He said that it was the 400W that had all the problems.

So the 500W is working, which it wouldnt if it blew in spectacular style.

Serious

If it hasnt had any problem then the 500 should continue without problem. Personally I would replace the 400 with a new one, not worth bothering TBVH and you should get a very reasonable replacement for under £60.

Cheers for the input - just to confirm it was the 400w being the git all along. At first I thought it might have something to do with the switch at the back being the problem - so I tried switching the computer on by the power socket instead. Still went pop on occasion.

Looks like Ill just bin the bugger then and put it down to a bad apple. Always been pleased with Enermaxes before now.
