ER6 and ER6i, different impedence and the ER6i is designed for lower output players like the iPod, but scores lower in the reproduction score (81% compared to 90% for the standard ER6). The ER6i also has a three flange plug rather than two.
Has anyone had a chance to compare them side by side, preferably on something like an iPod.
I know Nige will probably say I should get the ER4 but Ã,£160 is really a little much for compressed music :)
What I think youll find it that the i version is likely a little more bassy, in the same way the ER4P is bassier and more geared towards MP3 players when compared to the ER4S. Since the amplifier Greg kindly built for me has the inline resistor required to convert P to S Ive not switched back to P. The difference can be harsh but for most recordings has proved beautifully revealing.
I would suspect you would find the same in using the ER6 vs ER6i, but as Ive not heard either, I couldnt give solid advice. Maybe Greg or someone else has? In any case, my core stance on the issue is that bass is the least of concerns with this level of listening, go for reproduction clarity every time. iPods etc can manually EQ the bass if youre really not finding them that meaty, but IMO, you soon learn to appreciate bass is not everything.
I dont have my iRiver now, but I use them for so more than I did when it was simply on the move listening, I rarely bother turning on my speakers any more. I think you would find you grow the same attachment to them if you did go the whole hog. It depends how good your hi-fi setup is.
Never tried both, but I use Er-6is on my 4G ipod and theyre frickin great.
