I do not any more, I do not think they have any worth any more. If Tarauntino latests gets some deservers man trophies then I will stand corrected but right now - Nah.
Hurt Locker may be good but just how many people have actually got to see this yet? lol.

Has it ever meant something? I mean, how many people go and watch a film after the oscars based on the number of nominations or awards it received? I never have nor will. I think it only means something to people in the industry, for everyone else its just another opportunity to stare at the celebs.

i was browsing the web and messing about while I watched Hurt Locker so didnt pay it that much attention.... maybe I missed something but it wasnt that good....

not sure if I didnt pay it enough attention.... or it wasnt good enough to gain my attention... but its normally the latter with films like this...

Totally agree. I can only assume its because the war topic is so current and everyone wants to support the troops. Really didnt see that it was deserving of so many awards.

it was just so formulaic. the sniper bit really pissed me off, I mean the writers thought process must of been "ooooh its a war film, that means there must be a scene with snipers."

definitely not deserving of an oscar.

I wasnt too enthralled by avatar either. I think the best way to watch it is on a normal TV/cinema screen. That way youre not swayed by the awesome effects everyone was talking about, and you can appreciate the (not very good) story

Someone did a article on what movies have won oscars.

The formula is very simple really...

- The voters are selected actors and people in the industry.
- A Movie which has deep story and characters they relate to something in real life or "current" in the US mindset will do well.
- Do the above and make it a war movie or based around a war it ticks more boxes
- If it does the above and done relatively cheaply then it gets extra points.
- If the above has an actor, director or something a little unique or not the normal run of the mill (Women director, female lead in what you would think would be a male casting, Different Race (basically not the standard white American which 99% of the time they give Oscars too.)

Just a shame it was so hyped up and turned out to be just alright, but not worthy to say its anywhere near great.
