A friend of mines computer has started to randomly get BSODs.

The error is:
Quote*** stop: 0x0000008e (0x00000005, 0x8013ae03, 0xa66c3ccc, 0x00000000)

Whats the first things to try to fix it?

Thanks a lot

You should always google the code it gives you, and preferably make a note of the error message below it if one is provided, e.g. IRQ_NOT_LESS_EQUAL

Not being funny Tek_Ed but that link looks like a complete scamtrap, there will be a root cause for the error probably completely unrelated to the registry:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945658/

;)

Is that a real program....as in you dont have to pay for crap after youve installed it etc?

I did find that when I googled, but looked too much like one of them programs.

Cheers Clockd, I will try and get the error message too :)

Just reinstall Windows, it takes far less time than spending the time finding out and applying a fix :P

Not really, if its a hardware or driver issue and keeps reoccuring.
