A combination of Film4 suddenly being free on the tele, and being a subscriber to Amazon DVD rentals, I have seen some good cinema lately (and subsequently not gone out much :P)

I recently saw Memoirs of A Geisha

Thought this was a brilliant film - good quality characters, and decent story - good running time too, so it didnt have to rush through.

and last night, I saw The Green Mile

Cant believe I missed out on this one, as its ages old but  WOW, what a BRILLIANT film, I really really enjoyed it.

Again, nice long running-time so it can tell a story in detail, and build up some characters very well indeed.

On Sunday, I saw The Motorcycle Diaries

Thought this was really good too, told the story of 2 doctors wanting to help work out a cure of leprosy - blagging their way around south America on an 8000 mile journey (iirc)

Based on a true story too.

I think the thing I liked most about these films was that it wasnt like a thriller where once youve seen it, you know how its going to go and its not quite as good anymore, but its based on the characters & people in the films.

I have House of Flying Daggers arriving tomorrow hopefully, which shall be interesting!

Anyone seen anything decent lately?

Green Mile is an awesome film. Go read the book if you havent already, one of Kings best ever
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I saw about 30 minutes intermittently of Hidalgo the other night. I might have to rent the whole thing, as the horse was marvelous. 8)

I watched Ong Bak the other night.

I was suitably impressed with Tony Jaa and the raw quality of the sans-wirework and no stunt doubles fighting - I even yelped empathetically at a few points - but by no means watch it expecting a deeply layered and involved story

Got Ong Bak in the list of DVDs to come from Amazon :)
